I'm looking for something that's not too well-known, and hopefully not too long either. Anything you g/u/rls recommend?
I'd recommend Amarantus for some incredible naturalistic dialogue, OPUS: Echo of Starsong if you want a sci-fi romance tragedy, and Tangle Tower for a whimsical murder mystery.

You should definitely try "Coffee Talk", lovely game, wonderful vibe, you'll love it if you like playing Va11 Hall-a (which I assume you do)

Katawa Shoujo not on steam but is a good vn

>>967827 I don't want to shit on the g/u/rl who recommended it, but Synergia is really bad. The writing and the UI are both clunky. Best example, the game often doesn't show a portrait or any visual to indicate which character is talking, which only really becomes a problem when all the characters have basically the same voice. It seems like it has a popular niche but unless you really want another cyberpunk yuri story I'd keep your cash.

I recommend Arcadia Fallen. It's good but it's regular price is a little insulting, so as sale is a good time to pick it up.
I like to say that I found it gripping while reading it, but that it lacked ideas or emotional highs or lows that will make the story stick with me.

You and Me and Her is really good, just make sure to get the patch along with it, it adds a lot more.

Anyone got any recommendations to more down to earth/realistic VN:s? I really enjoyed "Don't take this personally. I just don't like you" because the setting and dialogue was pretty much identical to how my life looked like when I was the same age as the protaganist.

>>967964 I don't know that game but it's giving me the same vibes as We Know the Devil. Also, this one isn't on sale (bc it's already free), but check out first date/can't relate https://ub4q.itch.io/first-date

>>968014 Thanks! I'll definetly check them out. We Know the Devil gives off a completely different vibe than DTIPIJDLY but it looks like such an interesting game that I'll play it regardless.
I got a demo version of Don't Take This Personally I just Don't Like You from one of those itch.io support bundles that was linked here a couple of years ago. I think it was the BLM one? Either way, the demo (camping trip) is now free for everyone https://lockerkid.itch.io

>>967934 This looks hecka polished compared to some other VNs, and goddamn I just checked the voice cast and I do not know how they managed to afford all that.
The writing in the demo isn't bad and I like the vibe, so I ended up buying it. Thanks for the rec!

Kara no Shoujo/The Shell. Pretty dark tho. A Light in the Dark is short but I loved it. Thank god for the added 'true end.'

I really enjoyed Heart of the Woods (cried a bit at the end). I've also heard good things about SeaBed.
