Is PS2 concept dead?

| Dead of Tohru Okada made me think.. Is PS2 Gen dead? Of course that console is dead, but now i think as game-design concept. PS2 bringed a lot interesting (and mostly exclusive titles) as Fatal Frame, ICO, Jak & Daxter, Devil May Cry, Rule of Rose etc. and it makes me think.. What happened with game-design? And why games aren't same anymore? PS3 was probably first console of changes, also it's bringed PSN, but we had still games what followed things from PS2

| as examples i can bring Heavy Rain, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, Ridge Racer 7, Yakuza 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, The Last of Us etc.. but it had less titles than PS2. (also because of complex architecture, cell was hell for developers)
And than we had here PS4.. there are few titles as Until Dawn, Everybody's Golf, Driveclub.. but over PS4 is easier for port games, releasing of exclusives is smaller. And most of these games did get to PC

| PS5 will probably get VR exclusives. But i feel that consoles did become closed pcs. As a person what owns PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U.. I don't feel motivation to buy PS4 or later console, but instead buy Switch (which i plan to buy, but now won Steam Deck).. Somehow i think that Steam did become own console. But "sadly" openess of this platform also bring thousands of lost games and bloatware..

| Also online gaming bringed trend of "games as service" titles.. Or companies as Koei Tecmo, Capcom, SEGA prefer to bring older titles in form of sequel or port.. I don't want to complain about these games, they are awesome, but feeling of deja vu is somehow strange.. and they don't bring such a wow effect as they released in past. And is feeling that indie developers can easily compete with these large companies sometimes.

| games since first playstation was usually defining genre, or they was using hw most effectively they could. In some way it's maybe right that concept of traditional consoles almost died. (Nintendo is last one in this way), but somehow it's makes me sad. And also i miss "dark" adventures, as Project Zero or Silent Hill. And when i feel more attracted by Tekken 8 or FF XVI instead atomic heart or starfield it's makes feel me little old

| that shit will never die.

| >Console become closed pc

It has been like that since PS4. And as a PC owner, I am glad for it. Since there are PS3 exclusive games that I want to play, but still stuck there.

>sequel and remake instead of new ip
That's because game is very expensive to make, no room for risk and experiment. Only indie game can get away with chibi/ pixel art, 20 hours experience with no voice acting. If AA or AAA game try to pull this off, people will mock them.

| >>c06171 I think it's less risk and more that they've standardized development for profit.

EA actually made great shit for a minute, mirrors edge, dead space and bad company.

It's only when people figure out about whales and pay to play models that unique IP takes a back seat.

| as long as nerds make ps2 inspired games it will never die!
speaking of, wasn't sukeban making one or is it just the voices in my head

| you right look though their dev log on the their website. the dithering makes it Look more like 3ds/late psp to me though.>>943639

| >>943695 It's emulating the ps1 look from Parasite Eve I believe

| I thought this thread would be about planetside 2

| >>943793 it's too new

| We'll go back there one day. Current model is unsustainable with games costing a trillion dollars to make with a decade dev cycle and trying too hard to be Hollywood movies
