Name the most overrated/overhyped mediocre game (In your opinion) and state why you find them so.

| I'll go first:

GTA V.

I find the game controls very mediocre, it's lack fluidity and smoothness imo and I hated the characters in it. Not a single likeable one. The gameplay itself leaves much to be desired, the tps sections are mediocre at best. It was worse than GTA IV imo

| Elona

| Witcher 3

Combat system is incredibly boring and gets old quickly

| Life, easily. Got promised happiness and was delivered taxes.

| Chess. There are way better board games out there with way more strategy and skill to them, but it still gets hyped as being for mega brain geniuses just because it's old.

| Every FPS game from nowadays.
I wonder how retarded someone has to be to buy a FPS game because how much saturated is the genre.

| The Dark Souls series

| >>798175
This.

Story is decent, it has a few really good moments, but those only last for a couple minutes and everything except for those moments just feels like very mid filler.

| VA-11 Hall-A
You people probably never heard of it, but it inspired a bunch of tards to rp as girls on some random textboard. Could you imagine?

| Goes without saying, Cyberpunk 2077

| As a contrarian, Titanfall 2.

Thought mp map design was awful, and games are only fun for 2 min before the titans arrive. Story was mediocre. Levels started off kinda neat but dropped off hard after "Effect and Cause".

Also not a fan of source engine physics and the modern military fps-style gunplay. There's also stuff missing from Titanfall 1 like more customizable titan loadouts and animated in-match adjutants that made the game more immersive.

| >>798245 Truer words have never been spoken.

FPS genre has been oversaturated to hell and back. There's zero originality and innovation in that genre now.

>>798175 TW3 is a narrative focused game, so it's not for someone who enjoys exciting combat system. The side quests, world building and the characters are its strength. Combat is its weakness.

| >>798228 I was asking about video games, genius. Albeit I will admit, Chess is boring af

| Mega Man 2
I always hear everyone sing so much praise for this game as if it was the best run and gun in existance when it's not even the best Mega Man game on the NES. The weapons are mostly shit, the boss design sucks, and the levels are filled with infuriating setpieces (ESPECIALLY the Wily stages)
It's just not fun :/
Music's cool tho, I must give it that

| Judgement, love the yakuza series but all the extra detective mechanics slow the pacing down and make the game feel like work.

Maybe I should give it a another shake with a better mindset.

| persona 5,
the gamplay and level design are disappointing to me

| >>798356

Ugh Buebeam Trap's such a terrible boss. And the final boss only being vulnerable to one weapon that has limited ammo's a strange idea.

| Undertale/Deltarune

Not because is haha funny to hate the game, I just find that 90% of the "jokes" the games has just never really land to me. I can admit the bullet hell mechanics are cool, but it's just kinda soured by the while game's "personality.

| Fallout 76 ... It just works? Its bethesda not much to say

| >>798614 It was always considered as shit, even befoee it came out

| >>798421 those levels are so shallow and drag out for too long. Combine that with redundant exposition and poorly paced cutscenes, I gave up playing P5.

| Skyrim. NPCs and quests are way too stupid.

| >>798327 actually it's kinda overhyped to hate Cyberpunk 2077

| >>798786

Pretty much. The worst thing about Cy77 was not so much the lack of promised content, but that it was damn near unplayable for the first month or so on release. Honestly, were it not for that, it might have not gotten nearly as much bad press and people can just go "well maybe i shouldn't have eaten so much of the hype."

| I could say something typical, like Fortnite, or Roblox, or whatever other game is getting a bunch of attention that I don't care for, but if we're asking real questions...

Who the fuck plays MapleStory? I mean, seriously?

| >>799175 It was cool back in the day, and somehow outlasted Maplestory 2, lol.

| >>799030 nah the game fuckin sucks too. the skills tree, the weapons, and like 80% of the main quest dialog is linear and uninspired.

| >>798614 Fallout 76 is one of the most hated game of the past decade. It's not overhyped in the least.

Also agreed with >>798786 Cyberpunk 77 WAS overhyped pre-release but since has gotten terrible rep and has become one of the most hated game of the past decade as well.

>>798451 OMG YES! I played Undertale because of the hype and to say I was bored is an understatement. It's one of the dumbest game I've played.

| >>799405
I feel like that is a problem with hype in general. I've played Undertale demo before full release on a friend's recommendation, expecting absolutely nothing at all, and got hooked after the demo ended, maybe partially because I enjoy that kind of games in te first place. But everyone I've seen who started playing when the hype really got going and pretty much only because of the hype ended up really disliking the game, even if usually they also enjoy something like that

| >>799417
Yeah. I played that game on release having barely even heard about it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Everyone I know who's tried getting into it after it popped off and became mainstream just barely played half of it and dropped it.
It's a game that's best played knowing next to nothing and having no expectations. Then it gets the chance to surprise you and get you engrossed.
But if you know the gist of it and have high expectations you're not gonna get what you wanted.

| On top of that it's also just, not for everyone. Kinda like JoJo's in that sense. It's pretty niche and really strange if you actually think about it. It's mainstream, but it shouldn't be, because it's not gonna appeal to most audiences.

| >>799417 Maybe. I didn't play Undertale until last year btw I played it during the quarantine and it felt just awfully bland to me. Maybe I expected too much due to the hype, but it certainly didn't feel like worthy of the hype it got. Also, I enjoy Indie games often btw, some of my fave games are Indie.

| Another overhyped game I'd like to mention here would be the Marvel's Spiderman and Miles Morales.

Glorified Ubisoft Open world is what these two are. There's remotely nothing original about them, the combat feels as generic as they come, the exploration is basically as any other open world game. The web slinging exploration feels amazing at first but the lustre fades very fast in that as well.

Ghost of Tsushi also feels similar.

| >>799723
Undertale was time sensitive and niche. It was made with a certain crowd in mind during a specific time period. It also did some new things and explored some themes and concepts not really explored in games before, but that have become more common now.
I honestly think it's impossible to love that game if you weren't that crowd during that time with no expectations.
Is that a flaw with the game? Yeah. Probably.
Is it overrated? That's super hard to measure due to all that.

| Don't know if anyone said this, the Uncharted games. They look good, but they just feel so slow(?) It feels like it's more of a movie than a game

And yes, I'm aware about the Uncharted movie with Tom Holland

| >>799898 100% agreed. Naughty Dog games in general are like that. Great looking games but are very cinematic with generic/disappointing gameplay.

| Minecraft, it's boring after 30 mins.

| >>800129 you're boring after 30 minutes

| >>800395 why are you butthurt. It's his opinion.

| >>799759
Huh you know this is a pretty good point. Even if you come into Undertale now with zero expectations and having nothing spoiled, Undertale has seeped too much into today's culture, exploring themes now already commonly explored by newer games, that it would lost a lot of its lustre.

| Genshin Impact

| >>800826 It's getting more toxic than usual

| >>800826 Couldn't agree more, got spoiled on botw

| >>800872 How is it more toxic than when it started? casuals already dropped it

| Cyberpunk 2077. The only thing I enjoy about it is that its steam reviews have so much reviews starting with the reviewer's wife leaving them, it's hilarious

| >>799898 I definitely agree Uncharted is overrated. Overall gameplay is just too limited, especially with how cover shooters get pretty boring and frustrating.

| >>800872 Ditch the NA and EU server. Come to Asian server. Genshin players in Asian server almost never speak/send texts so there's incredibly low chances of meeting a trashtalker. I've been playing in Asian server since the beginning and I've not met a single trashtalker.

| >>801279 Inside the game is one thing (I also literally forgot this game has any form of Multiplayer) but all the toxicity I see goes outside the game, which makes sense and unites most of the GI community.

I do have Genshin Impact banned on Twitter for a reason
