Everyone already knows it, but

| Dead Cells is fucking great. Bought it today from the Switch winter sale, and, damn. Just, really fucking good game.

| Hell yeah Dead Cells is great!

I'm... pretty bad at it though. Still can't beat the final boss. I keep feeling like I'm cheesing every fight.

| I find that it gets kinda repetitive kinda fast... And although there's an abundance of different weapons and builds, there really isn't a lot of viable options.

Oh yeah, I'm feeling this too. I keep playing either a sword + shield build (the type of sword/shield doesn't matter). Or a ranged build of bow (of any type) and projectile trap (of any type)... I'm just not motivated to come up with build combos, and unlocking things isn't really exciting.

If any of y'all are good at the game, plz give tips.

I mean, I just started yesterday, but I haven't gotten this yet. Right now I usually go for any build that supports magnetic grenade. Usually just all out on tactics, hopefully find a magnetic grenade, and then end up with a glass cannon build that can clear out entire screens with the click of a button and kill any normal enemies without getting hit (usually whip + bow or kick + firebrand).

I haven't tried a lot of builds yet though, because I love this one rn.

| I think that's how most Roguelikes end up feeling like after a while. Neon Chrome, Soul Knight, and to a lesser extent Enter the Gungeon, tried to relieve that by giving more kinds of weapons/abilities when starting out, by changing the layout of the hub when you discover stuff, or by offering some sort of minigame for you to do in between your dungeon crawls like the shopkeeping system in Moonlighter. Personally, I like the grind, and there's just enough content to keep me hooked.

I agree! Something I've been enjoying way more here than in something like Enter the Gungeon or TboI (two of my favourite rogue-likes) is that the combat feels way more creative in a way, and way more engaging.

Some weapons make me feel like I'm playing a Souls-like, while some make feel like I'm doing fighting game combos, while some feel, hm, kind of like finishing moves in XC2. Takes some setting up but do insane damage and feel really satisfying to pull of.
I love it!

Man, as much as I've been enjoying the Dead Cells, I don't think I'm feeling any of those things. Most of the combat has just been kinda thoughtless on my part.

I can never set up combos because I just die trying them. I like setting up some long-range damage, but that relies too much on getting good drops and also it feels like I'm cheesing the fights.

| Do y'all just stick with the weapons you get early and upgrade the heck out of them, or do you still pick up late-game drops? I like sticking with what I got early, but I always feel a bit underpowered at the end.

Then it's your mindset that's the reason you don't feel like that. Combos and big long-range damage are just playstyles which come with their own pros and cons. To pull it off I almost exclusively upgrade tactics, which leads to barely any health increase, and no shield either. So I can kill from far away and kill a lot of enemies quickly, but if anything touches me I'm basically dead.

Think of it as a glass cannon character from a fighting game or a wizard from an RPG.

It honestly depends. I still don't get very far in the game, but I usually find some kind of combo in the weapons I use early or, I guess some sort of synergy. So if the weapons I find later on don't synergize well in a similar way, then I most likely don't grab it.

| >>726756 This for the most part, until at one point you just need to change for more powerful stuff, synergy be damned.

I mean, it did work for me eventually. I kept some decently synergistic stuff and just played better to make up for the fact that not all my stuff was very buff, got past The Concierge for the first time (I killed the DLC boss first try but for some reason struggled on this one) and then got far into the clocktower for the first time. So, I'm getting better. Obviously some of the upgrades help, but in general I've just been playing better. More strategy and dodging better.

| I don't like picking up stuff just for the power, and thanks to playing better and the blacksmith now being unlocked I don't think I'll need to.
