I like them more than perfect ones.
They miss the mark but you totally understand what they were going for. And in a certain way it's flaws add to it.
Not a refined minimalist production pipeline, but something made by a person.

I get where you're coming from OP, but there's no such thing as a perfect game. Everyone's idea of perfect will be different, especially as their upbringing and standards affect their idea of perfection. You can have a game made with the utmost craftsmanship and it will fall flat in the eyes of an illiterate and uninformed audience.

>>722801 or maybe people just have different tastes? No matter how great a game is it'll never appeal to everyone's tastes. That doesn't mean they're dumb lol

Perfect games don't exist.
If anything, the way op described it sound like she's actually talking about so-bad-it's-good games

I agree. For me, Chrono Trigger will always be on that list.

>>722812 I'm not saying you can't enjoy a game based on taste, it goes without saying. All tastes are valid. I'm just saying that perfection is not a concrete, widely agreed concept when everyone experiences media differently. I'll admit I don't know everything, but when I'm critical of certain popular games people give 10/10s to, its because I've seen other less-popular examples that come closer to what people ask for.

To me personally, I can't never choose a 10/10 score. Because the concept of something perfect is unreachable. Instead, you focus on trying to get as close as you can, meaning that there will always be room for improvement or something better.
... So if I ever score something, it'll be at best, a 9.9/10. But eventually I might change that if something else (that's relatively the same concept) improves on it.

GTA IV with its episodes fit in here perfectly. I love how that game focuses on minor details and doing side things like befriending people to make your life easier.
The only problem with it is that it came way too early.
On consoles it runs fine, lags sometimes, pretty good but tends to crash and also PS3 version is running in 640p (EFLC in 720p) on Xbox 360 the textures tend to pop out and their resolution is worse despite higher display res overall.

PC was an awful port. Can lag on even today's machines, got poor treatment with launchers (thanks Windows Live) and it ain't even better now given that the version they sell lacks some audio tracks and got multiplayer ripped off completely.
It was one of the first games on DVD that I had to crack to even enjoy the game itself which I did but it's hilarious that I had yo crack it to be able to fully enjoy it.

Hmm. Honestly, the not that well known indie game Eldritch Reanimated is that in my opinion.
It's a rogue-like, immersive sim type game. It has multiple worlds and you have to collect an orb at the very end of every randomly generated, multiple level world and bring it back to the hub world to unlock the final world. If you die once, all the orbs dissapear and you start anew.
But the world and how creatures interact and the mechanics and everything is, so close. It's so close.

I have no idea what could be done to push it from where it is into something close to perfection, but I feel like it could be possible.
Every time I play it, it feels almost perfect. I love the game, but it's a little broken and every time I feel like something is missing. Just, one little thing or a couple small tweaks or changes could make it so close to perfect, but, even after all the updates and stuff, it still has the same feeling.
It's so, so close! It's almost perfect!
