What are the best games that you would never recommend?

Example: I really, really like Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It's an amazing game, the combat is super fun, the story and characters are enjoyable, lots of cool mechanics... but the first 15 hours of the game are essentially an extremely drawn out, sluggish tutorial. So while I'm past that point in the game and absolutely loving it, I would never recommend the game to someone because of those first 15 hours.
Now, what are games that you g/u/rls like but wouldn't recommend, and why?

Pathologic classic. Marvelous game with beautifully written dialogues and characters and equally as beautiful soundtrack and atmosphere in general, but it's extremely hard to get into it. The game is not friendly to say the least, and the gameplay itself may seem a bit too boring for most people. Really though? That's not why I won't ever recommend it to anyone. As stupid as it may be, I simply do not like sharing things I deeply enjoy with others

The same goes for any other game I love deeply though, not just Pathologic. Hollow Knight, Dark Souls, Hyper Light Drifter - these are all magnificent games, but I won't ever recommend them to any of my friends. Not because there is something wrong with the games, but because I already love them too much. Blabbing about them with anons on the Internet is fine, but sharing them with people I actually know and care about feels.. wrong. I guess I'm just greedy. Or stupid lol

Persona 4, after you finish it you'll be forever looking for something like it but will never find (not even persona 5 or 3) you will be destined to listen to the ost all your life wishing for another game as good as it but you'll never really get the same feeling, the it'll be post-game depression for all your life

NekoPara. Because uh... Umm...it's very risque to put it lightly.

>>722587 You know, funny you should mention Nekopara. Me and my friends actually talked about and recommended eachother Nekopara a lot. Traded the uncensoring files and stuff, and one of my friends actually used to sit in a corner and play the uncensored Nekopara games when we were chilling at someone's house.

Akibas Trip. It's a fun game that gets a little repetitive near the end but it's very hard to explain it to someone who's not a weeb without being judged.

>>722569 And the game is originally intended to be played in Russian, so you will never fully experience the atmosphere of the game.

Tactics Ogre. If you play classic you're gonna be playing a super grindy permadeath dame and ig you play the PSP version you're gonna have to spend literally 800 or so hours just to complete the entirety of the man game's many branching stories....and that's not mentioning the times necessary to collect the super secret characters.
But fuck I love it.

hmmmmm......girls'frontline i try to recommend to my friend but they dont unterstand that funny in there or maybe this game so old to only i can enjoy it

>>722569 I feel the same way but about music. It feels like a really personal thing. With games though, I'd generally want everyone to play what I like!
Except for Kentucky Route Zero. It's fantastic in a lot of ways. I like how the story flows like a poetry, I like all the visual trickeries, the kind of effects impossible to replicate in movies or literature. But boy it's SLOW. And if you don't dig the theme it all feels pointless.

Fate Extra I love the characters and the story is interesting but a bit confusing but the gameplay is really repetitive even for an rpg and while I like the battle system, it's too rng based to the point that on a first playthrough you can lose tons of progress just because of not guessing right.

Dominions 5. Oddly my friend got me into it but I'd have trouble recommending it to anyone
It legit is a strategy arms game in a fantasy setting with the spells you research being nuclear weapons of mass destruction, which in MP games creates a strong diplo aspect to the game.
However there is just so many guides and out of game material you need to read so you don't lose the game at character creator that I can't see any normal person playing it.

Deadly Premonition. Honestly it would be playable if ports were actually decent. Steam release crashes even with fixes. The game has super shitty map and open world stuff is very very slow. Driving is one of the worst things And those were the things torturing me the most. But the rest is pretty nice. Play Swery's games and get excited for "Good Life". The man is very passionate about what he does.

>>722602 Oh yeah, and I've heard truly awful things about the game's English translation. That's actually one of the very few reasons why I don't mind being Russian all too much lol

TO THE SHAME HOLE! Let's see... Omega Labyrinth Life Rayark rythm games Yakuza Nier Automata UnEpic Va-11 Hall-A Furi Just Shapes and Beats
I'd have to check my switch to think of more. These are all games I've loved and had some fun with, they're just kinda niche in my opinion, especially for my friends. I'm like the only one that plays rythm games or platformers and stuff like that. And my friends have too much shame to say they would play Omega lol

Drakengard 3 is the best game I dont recommend playing. Some awesome music and story concepts, but its a pretty redundant beat em up with an infuriating final boss. XD

Press x to not die... But i did recommended it once to someone so.. it's doesn't counts
I kinda feel that. At this point I'd probably recommend the game chiefly to people who really like cyberpunk stories and... well, reading. Visual novels, really.

That would be Nioh. The variety of weapon types, stances and combos make for an entertaining combat system, but it's far too unforgiving on any mistake you do (a basic attack from a regular demon takes more than half your health), and a regular player is not going to enjoy dying several times before reaching the next checkpoint.

Noita. It's a great game and cheesy deaths are part of the experience, but I don't think most of the people I would recommend it to would enjoy dying like that.

They prefer bonking each other over the head with big numbers, I prefer single player stories. To each his own, they're still some of the best friends I have even if we dont play the same stuff

Yume Nikki it's an amazing piece of art that changed how people make RPG Maker games ever since 2003 but due to how classic it is most people wouldn't know about it that much and the gameplay is hard to get into nowadays since it's focus on walking around an empty vast world which is boring for some people and kinda hard to finish without looking up wiki that's why I considered it to be a piece of art more than a video game. Recommend if you like surreal atmosphere!

>>723828 also please avoid another 3D game called "YUMENIKKI DREAM DIARY" that just came out a few years back it's ruined my expectations of a new Yume Nikki game after all those years and they managed to ruined it. Just stay with the original freeware one it's a masterpiece!

All gacha games. Big ass asterisk next to that "Good games" part, some are good, some are bad, some are atrocious. Luckily I managed to get out of the hell that's FGO, but lately i've really been into Genshin Impact and Girls Frontline. They will definitely cause burnout and disappointment because of gacha rates and the amount of farming and micromanagement you have to do just to be able to play. They really help autists and people with ADHD like me to cope with reality though.

>>724503 Genshin is so good even without the gacha. I just love exploring that world, the environment design and the music are so good, and the combat is fun as well even with the default characters. The main story, while being alright, really pales before the sidequests which are just *chef's kiss*.
GFL is on the better side of the gacha spectrum too since it uses ingame currency for the gacha, I used to clear all content even fully F2P when I was still playing a year or two ago.
Post number #724587, ID: 5edc12

>>724503 That thing you said at the end there is partially true. I've found though that I find gacha too boring and just go for straight up gambling with high bets. Just pulling anime waifus isn't enough to satiate me.
So, basically, what I'm saying is that if someone makes a gacha that's less of a normal game and more like just a normal casino, I'd be poor. Blackjack, Poker, slots and roulette with waifus and husbandos using credit that translates to real money. Would be sick.

So basically games that have amazing concepts but are a chore to play? Hands down passion projects like Witness and Pathologic, maybe even Death Stranding. Games that are the artist's perfect vision but will never see mass appeal.

>>724991 Not necessarily. Just games that you wouldn't recommend for some reason or another, but those games definitely fit in that category for the exact reasons you said.

Payday 2 Borderlands 2 Fallout New Vegas Starbound
All of these games are fun as hell, but have bugs, balancing or some other issue with it. I still love all of them though.
