I find that open world games tend to burn me out or offer diminishing returns after longer sessions. The constant formulaic running from point A to B to do one of like 15 quest types so you can dot all the i's and fill all the gauges starts to feel kind tedious and pointless. Compared to a more tight, linear game, like an RPG or (ugh) a CoD game that keeps you engaged with the story more closely.
Idk I've been playing Genshin Impact and after a week it lost its charm a bit.

Well, it sounds like open-world games are simply not your thing. Don't play them then? I don't think there is much else you can do about it

Fortunately, Genshin Impact is free! So you're not wasting anything if you decide after playing that it's not fun for you.
Ok in all seriousness, I've never played Genshin myself, but doesn't it also have a main quest you can do? Can't you just ignore all the boring side quests?

I play a fair amount of open world stuff, and usually they're good fun, but a common thing is where half of the overall game time is sidequests. They just feel too short if you only do main stuff, and you're woefully underequipped and underleveled if you skip side stuff. Still fun though.

I feel like if there was more care put into making locales, npcs, and events feel truly unique you'd finally have a really awesome open world game. It would take inordinate time and work but I think it would really be worth it. They've finally really mastered environmental cycles and such.

>>710127 problem with open world games is that not as much care and detail is put into things since it's so expansive. like you said it's impossible to dedicate such time and effort without falling into dev hell. eh, not my kinda thing but big worlds have their crowd... although I really enjoyed (modding) skyrim and F:NV.

Genshin's sidequests are kinda short mostly and give free xp. You don't have to do them though. You'll want to do them after level 30 on your own for ar progression. But it is one of the more involving open world games. Smthg like gta or rdr might be more fun for you as it has more life and less tediousness. Unless you mean rpg only.
