I think I've heard this described as motion sickness? Whenever I play a 3D game with significant realism/detail (so that's most of AAA games) I often have headaches. It's kind of difficult to pinpoint what it feels like, but it makes playing feel unpleasant. Does anyone else also feel like this?
I got it for both first-person and third-person games. In The Witcher 3, lowering/disabling things in the graphics settings helped a bit.

I'm fine with 3D games with more cartoonish/stylistic visual, like Persona 5, Splatoon, Breath of the Wild, or with simpler environment like NieR, though with Automata I had to adjust the settings a bit.
I know I used to have no problem in the past. Assassins' Creed II and 2013 Tomb Raider are some of my favs, but I dunno how it'll be if I play them today.
It just kinda sucks that I can't play most modern games...

Turn off Depth of Field, turn down the graphics so you have a nice smooth FPS and make sure the cross hair is visible since having a focal point in the middle of the screen is important.
Also don't play when you're hungry or overly tired. Good luck!

I suggest that it's not realism making you feel bad but surrealism, like when developers make generally realistic-looking graphics look better than reality via wierd post-processing and it end up looking good for promo-materials, but feels wierd in gameplay. Afaik pretty much all modern video cards has hardware post-processing that can compensate this effect. Also if game allows, you can try changing FOV settings, particulary lowering it and disabling dynamic FOV.

>>710086 I think it's more the number of things and details on screen, but I dunno. Like, I get uncomfortable watching live-action films with fast-moving camerawork too, and I'm pretty uncomfortable going outside where it's very crowded.

Whenever I get something like this, turning off motion blur usually does the trick if that's an option. It's a dumb feature in my opinion.

Maybe it's related to v-sync and the display you are using. Even the screen refresh ratio and high fps might be related

I wonder if decreasing the resolution might help?

I had the same effect in COD warzone when it launched. Kill motion blur and decrease texture settings. And put your FOV up

Ye, motion blur is such a dumb feature. It's just an easy trigger for vertigo and headaches in certain people. I'll take a clear head over PhOtO ReAlIsM anyday.

Relatable, OP. Motion blur for camera movement is impractical and an eye sore. Not to mention photorealistic games make my eyes strain more when trying to see anyone from a distance or in motion. I say this in the context of shooters and games with an over-the shoulder camera.
In stylized games like the ones you mentioned, colors pop up and character silhouettes are more unique so I can easily tell what I'm seeing in a split second

>>710829m Yesss. It's a lot easier to see what's going on in stylized games.
Motion blur, depth of field, bloom, turning all of those off helps. Who came up with those settings anyway?
>>710612 Nah, that just makes it blurry. Although, if I play the smaller res on windowed mode or on a smaller screen, that does help a bit.
