Besides "China bad" and that spyware controversy that wasn't really fully confirmed, what are the reasons? Seems like a solid platform, offers better rates and nice exclusivity deals for devs/publishers, and free games for users, what's to hate?

Fortnite and aggressive exclusives I guess. I don't really remember

The spyware was fully confirmed though. The EGS client gathered your steam info and sent it to China and Epic without telling you about it.
Their excuse was that the feature was never meant to be used but then why did they pay people to actually program and implement it?
They lost my trust and I will never use their gaming service. It's not that important anyway.

I trusted it when I tried to develop something on Unreal Engine back in 2014. But then a lot of spam was comming to my email because someone was trying to enter my account. This was because of Fortnite of course and I deleted my account and never cared anymore about Unreal. Then it went gaming store and all this Exclusive wave for games I didn't care to begin with, gaining bad reputation to a majority of PC players. They are as shit as EA.

Yeah how could I hate free spyware? It's free!

Honestly? I just don't like new stuff in general. Is it stupid? Yes, probably. But I hate getting used to new things.
This exclusive policy sucks ass too, but that's not all THAT important to me.

They when first starting to push it bought exclusivity for games that were on kickstarter and had promised backyard steam codes
They claimed they were anti monopolistic and were doing good for the industry while preventing the open market from deciding which platform to buy a game from
And their store is missing a fair amount of features

Their launcher is sucks. It's laggy, slow, lack of functional(shop cart, achievements, etc).

The question is, why are there still retards getting baited by crappy free games who end up using this crappy spyware?

Because the average casual or new gamer probably thinks gaming is a world of sunshine and rainbows where nothing bad happens.

Epic's exclusivity deal holds no value for customers, I mean, they could have brought console exclusive like Persona Series, Horizon Zero Dawn, heck even some older Nintendo games (because I'm sure they have that kind of money) to PC and make games more available to everyone.
Instead, they only went for indies and popular AAA games which will eventually come to PC anyways.

Epic's exclusive lineup will eventually end up on steam after 6 months or so.
Meanwhile, if I want to play Persona 4 or Disgaea games, it's only available on steam.
At this point, I'm just wondering who is the one holding the excusivity card.

They don't support Linux, whereas steam does a superb job at it and recently spearheads the Windows game emulation scene.
Also, they abandoned Unreal tournament

I had no idea spyware existed. Want to be a future game dev so now i know to steer clear or unreal engine

>>708909 Ye, it's better to learn unity, although it's not without its own share of problems. Although most serious game dev studios (both AAA and sometimes even indie) use their own in-house engines anyway.

>>1ff2ae guess ill need to figure out how to make an engine. But i can use unity to get a grasp of how to make some games

>>709122 Many are decent, but with varying goals and ideas. If you want to make a 3d action game, you won't use ren'py, and if you think turning your pc on is complicated you won't use blender. It all comes down to trying and seeing what's best for you. I've heard good things about the godot engine, for example, and it seems to be a rather general engine. What matters is to pick the right tool, a swiss army knife can do nany things, but none as efficiently as the proper tool.

>>709128 Godot is really really good already, and will be even better once 4.0 comes around, since it's gonna really beef up the 3D part (now it'd *mostly* 2D-focused). Unfortunately, it's not commercially recognized (at all), so it's only useful for personal projects.

Not sure I got about 140 free games from them so far cause I missed a few and they also give away free game assets for unreal engine too

Poor quality, they buy exclusivity, no shopping cart, Timmy hates PC gaming yet made a store on PC (such hypocrite), Timmy also complains about other companies making 30% cut from purchases but not gonna make bad word on console makers because money.

>>708622 but Steam wasn't overpay developers for exclusive release, and EGS is choosing games for store own, as i know.. i wasn't play persona, but if is there some erotic scene (fan-service) it can be also reason for not being released (epic said that don't want sexual content in games) They should first fix store, and than sell games

EGS lacks a ton of nice but not hyped indie games and older games. Plus their policies towards both developers and users seem super hypocritical which is disgusting. EGS also lacks features that are presented on other platforms such as community hubs, fan-made game content and proper profile customization. And final argument for me: there's no counter-strike.
