Is it possible to get higher resolutions on the original Half Life CD from 1998/1999?

I've bought the OG Half Life and wanted to try it out on my 2006 laptop. It's got Windows XP and a 1280x800 screen resolution which is 16:10. The Half Life CD I got displays resolutions only in 4:3 (640x480, 800x600, etc.)
It's a nice thing it's working but the Steam release that I got on my main PC can make the game display properly in 16:9 or 16:10 soo.. What do I do?
Would copying the Steam version to that make it work without Steam on it?

Sorry for any mistakes I have made. I still find English hard to use. :(

Either patch it manually or edit the resolution in the .cfg file. You can Google which one.
Good luck!
