I usually watch 30 minutes, decides that the game is interesting or not and if so considers buying or playing the game if I already own it. Seriously, games are meant to be played..

I watch when there's something I'll never play and I need some background for farming in a gacha or something. Otherwise I guess people don't have enough money for games. Or hardware.

Pretty much. I occasionally watch Beat Saber streams because I don't have it or a good space for VR yet, and I watch Dead Cells streams sometimes to see if there's anything new to pull me back again. Dead Cells also just has a fun community to chat with. Digital Gaming Angels sometimes does Just Chatting and they get drunk and have fun making all kinds of messed up jokes with us.

When I watch some game streams it's usually for the streamers commentary amd sometimes to see how they play and enjoy the game. There's also that small chance of interaction, but it's more easier to interact with them if they have a small amount of viewers.

Thanks for the serious replies lol on a second I posted it I thought I might sounded too smug about streamers.
Personally I can't enjoy commentaries at all, unless the streamer is really nerdy about the game. But I can relate to wanting to interact with the streamer part especially if they can or tend to make witty comeback to comments.

I tend to watch friends stream themselves playing and talk to them in the chat. I rarely tune in for popular streamers I don't know personally.

The only streams I watch are dev streams and occasionally Valorant tournaments. The first, I watch to find out what's being announced for the vidya I play, the second because it helps me get better at Valorant. I can't really watch someone just playing a game.

I've watched like a dozen streams total, by a person who is interesting as a person and is talking not only about a game. More often i was listening to them in background. I don't watch streams anymore because he stopped doing them.

When I watch them it's for the streamer, not for the game itself.

I used to watch for the streamer, but the combination of them playing games that I don't care about + too much down time doing whatever the fuck (I used to watch youtubers who edit the boring part out) made me burnt out of streams.
Now I mostly watch for the reaction. Example: all Yakuza fanchise fans that I know are male, it's sometimes interesting watching female let's players reaction to muscly man (sometimes) doing retarded stuff.

Counter question: Why do people watch sport games rather than paying them themself? Isn't that essentialy the same?
Back to the original question: I don't watch livestreams live because I don't have the pation to sit through serveral minutes of downtime. But I do watch a lot of streams later on youtube, simply because they are already edited, or I can skip the boring parts myself. Also, I don't care much about the streamer, I just wantto get entertained.

I like to watch people playing games I really enjoyed cuz it's the closest to experiencing the game for the first time again.
