| It's definitely more platform-ey than usual fighters, but it's still a fighter. CSGO, TF2 and PUBG are all shooters but with different mechanics, for example. It's less denial and more ease of categorization.

IIRC, Smash Bros was influenced by sumo wrestling because the goal is to knock opponents out of the stage. Of course, adding stamina/HP changes that.

Tf2 and CSGO do have more than guns, but yet they were made with shooters in mind.
Sumo is a type of martial arts, but it was martial art designed for weight combat.
Sakurai designed smash as something else besides a fighter, and says so as much. Combined with it's progression from Melee to brawl to ulti, it was obvious that they were trying to get away from the fighting scene (until very recently)

| 50th time this argument is brought to Danger/u/. Smash offers customizable games, the experience can be more near the Fighter genre and for others near party brawler, who cares? You go around saying Minecraft is a PvP shooter? Because if so Adventure map creators want to have a talk with you.
Why the need of tagging a game? it won't help you to enjoy the game in any case.

| I like to look up Google on the status of smash, not for confirmation but for SMUGNESS.
And recently some npc put out an article trying to argue that smash is a fighting game... With a weak ass argument.
I understand that most people think "hurr Durr they punch so they fight", but when the creator himself says his game isn't a fighting game, how much denial do you need to be in to argue against the point?
