For some reason knowing that I'm playing against another human online and not AI makes me nervous. I'm talking heart pounding, sweat dropping, cheeks flushing kinda nervous. Even in a completely no-stakes game, and in any type of game (heck, happens even with completely chill games like chess). It messes up my focus, eventually getting to the point when I'm more worried about calming down than playing the game. I'm not even that invested in these games, so this is weirding me out.

Either push on - and you'll eventually learn how to stay calm yourself - or just don't play. I mean you are not even invested - why bother?

You are probably afraid of losing and then looking bad in the eyes of your opponent. If that is the case, accept that loosing is totally normal, and no one cares about you in the internet

>>664503 Maybe "not invested" was a poor choice of words, what I mean is that it's not like there's anything to gain or lose in the game, so it's not like the result matters.
>>664505 Yeah, I don't like losing (let's be honest though who does?), but I don't really think I care that much about looking bad in some rando's eyes (especially with anonymous matchmaking). I guess it might be more of a subconscious thing?

I find that when I'm drunk I stop thinking about all that and don't get nervous while playing or anything and I even play better sometimes while drunk

Try controlling your breathing when that happens. Not too much, nor too little. Then regather your focus, and press on.
