What are some good, preferably cheap, RPGs that aren't well known? I don't have a lot of money, and I want to play RPGs that'll pleasantly surprise me and that hasn't been completely spoiled because, well, they're not very well known.
Could be old games that people don't really remember, could be indie games, could be AAA games that went under the radar and dropped in price.

Obligatory Undertale even if it doesn't fit criteria.

Vagrant Story. If you can get over the learning curve, it's a unique gem.

Epic Battle Fantasy has a really good battle system and nice animation. The story/writing is pretty juvenile though, which you might find it either charming or grating.
EBF 1-3 are free. 4-5 are solid improvements and under $20.

Gothic 1 & 2. A bit clunky and buggy but the writing is excellent. The world is lovely, it's characters unique, the music great, the options to do things are plenty. It's quite hard at the beginning though, so be carfeful.

>>658386 Ah whoops are you looking for western RPG? EBF is JRPG-inspired with a turn-based battle system.

>>658407 I love JRPGs, so no. I was just curious. The name made me think about TRPGs, and that's not necessarily what I want.

Persona 1 and Persona 2 Ever since Persona 3 came out it seems like Atlus and most people completely forgot about the existence of those games and that's why I'm counting them as underground rpg, though I totally understand if people don't agree with me

Underrail. Can't recommend the experience enough - and it's pretty much as underground as it gets.

The Yo-Kai Watch series if you have a 3Ds. They are generally good, but simple monster collecting RPG. The North American ads basically killed it here. The two latest games thag got released are pretty expensive, but YW3 is one of the best 3Ds RPGs i my mind.

>>662932 Ah, true. I forgot about that series. I do have a 3DS and I'm pretty sure I've watched a few episodes of the anime. The games look alright, but, aren't they full price Nintendo games? Because those cunts never lower their prices.

>>662987 The first game is hella cheap nowadays. You can find it for around five dollars at like a five below. While it sequels is gonna be around be 20. They have gone down in price recently.

>>663055 Ah, okay. That's nice. Nintendo usually sell their games really expensive even after many, many years, but I guess Yo-Kai Watch didn't do that well.

>>663060 Yeah. Any third party nintendo games just get cheap after awhile and after a big flop it goes for cheap. I recommend it if you want something different fron the standard pokemon format.

>>663420 I might get it, yeah. Something like that on DS (that isn't just Pokémon) could be nice. I still have yet to finish S&S though, and there are a lot of cool suggestions here, so I'll put it on the back burner for now. Thanks though :)
