OK it's pretty bonkers and not for the ideal reasons.
I had fun with it and where it was going, but I'm not surprised at all that it's off putting for others.
What does anyone else think of FF7R's final chapter and ending?

It's fucking shit. I wanted a remake, not an experimental sequel. Fuck Nomura, fuck Nojima, fuck Time Jannies.
The worst is that the game will be a commercial success, so expect Episode 2 to happen. When? It may be years. Al least they have the engine now, now they just need to work on the assets and scenes.

What are the main differences though?

>>645424 FF7R is actually an alternate timeline where the cloaked ghosts (called Whispers, who enforce the Planet's will) intervene when the events deviate from the classic FF7's original plot.
For example, they saved Barret from death when Sephiroth fatally stabbed him. But did nothing when Sephiroth kills President Shinra, because that part was supposed to happen.
Sephiroth is trying to alter the future, and Cloud's party fight both him and the Whispers of fate.

>>645424 In fact, the final boss is Sephiroth directly after the motorcycle chase sequence. And the battle affects both the future and past. We see the Whispers surround Midgar even during the end of Crisis Core. Zack survives in this alternate timeline and makes it to Midgar with Cloud. We still don't know how FF7R's ending affects the rest of the story. But there's more to come, since the game ends with the words "The Unknown Journey continues"

Hated the ending, for some reason Cloud wished Zack back after never stating he even remembered him and everyone agrees to chase down sephiroth after just hearing about him 5 minutes ago with no backstory, on top of that Shinras arc just looks meaningless already.

>>646403 Chasing down Sephiroth after what he pulled off in Remake, I can understand. Zack having his death averted still confused me. I wouldn't necessarily call the Shinra arc meaningless, considering they're still a huge part of Jenova and Sephiroth's backgrounds in the OG story. Of course, time will tell if Square Enix will expand on that connection or muddy it up with more of this defying destiny stuff.
