I've been trying to do via VirtualBox so, seems like a good idea and works perfect with majority of 2D games (except Unity ones?) On 3D I only tried GTA Sa, the game runs nice but there is some visual glitches (may be something about shaders?) whenever you pause the game and you have to minimize the game in order to fix that.

I've played old 2D games in Linux through virtual box and it works fine. More demanding games won't work since virtualization software doesn't have proper hardware support for gfx cards.
If you want to use your gpu you'll have to use something that supports gpu passtrough like QEMU does.

I'm gaming on windows in a kvm with my gpu passed through - works like a charm. No glitches and stuff, it just works.
