Halp, I can't just choose which of the two best bois to take as protagonist. Plus, I always play as some kinda alchemist/medic or some kinda scholar about equally as much, so the choice is tearing me apart. And from what I've read their path actions are also kinda similar..?

Cyrus is great, especially early game. He uncovers one weakness per enemy every time he goes into battle, which is great going to a new area to grind. Since all his spells attack all, it's great for taking out large hordes.
Alfyn excels late game, if you use Concoct appropriately. His offensive Concoct spells exist to break shields. His support is extremely powerful boosting/healing/sp recover. Plus Apothecary divine works on Concoct usage.

To sum it up, Cyrus is for scouting weaknesses, dealing massive damage, taking out enemies asap. He's got the best magic, I suggest the Sorcerer late game. I usually start with him.
Alfyn is for team support. His stats are balanced, but I see a lot of people like to abuse Last Stand with him for a physical AoE skill. His second job could be pretty much anything, just remember to use Concoct. Debatably it can be game breaking, I like it more than H'aanit's Beast Lore.

I love Cyrus, I picked him because I likw magery, and then it turned out he's also best boy.
Alfyn is straight busted though, if you want for gameplay.
