You could try to emulate a Katamari game, since those are pretty cheerful

For days like that, I try to start over a game I really like, or a game similar to that genre or game. Maybe RPG-based games will help you a little more, games that makes you evade reallity for a moment.
I shouldn't say this but try as many games as you can, by piracy if you need to, downloading s lot of games until you find something you like or you have been wanting to play for a long time. Maybe a modern Final Fantasy? Idk

Celeste is just an amazing experience so if you haven't played it start with that, as it is very easy to run and is beautiful. If you have a switch I also have some more recommendations ;)

Hyper light drifter is my favorite game of all time. Subnautica is a wonderful experience, i can recommend both of these to the fucking moon.

Weirdly enough, NieR: Automata helped me come to terms with a lot of things and helped me calm down when I was in a very bad place.

>>531382 NieR: Automata is a legitimate masterpiece. It helped me and gave me more than enough to think about, but it pretty much spoiled gaming to me because nothing comes close to its quality, at least for me.
I doubt it'll run on a Thinkpad though.
>>531204 Do you have any games you once enjoyed playing, maybe years ago? I recently dug up some HE games (Spy Fox, Putt Putt and Freddi Fish FWIW) from my childhood and legitimately had a blast replaying them.

I'm thirding NieR: Automata, and also the original NieR. The music alone helped me go through a lot in my life.
But since you probably can't play those...
Hollow Knight, if you're OK with hard games. The world looks grim at first, but explore a bit and you'll see that it's beautiful. The characters are also a joy to meet.

I'm also seconding Hyper Light Drifter, but only if you like high speed twitchy action. I found the adrenaline relaxing (oxymoron, i know). And the game's adrenaline and wordless storytelling is just beautiful.

>>531425 Spy Fox >>>Putt Putt>>>>>>>>>>> Freddi Fish
This is the objective truth. (Dunno about Pajama Sam since my parents never bought me those as a kid..)

>>531425 yeah I played ragnarok battle offline again a while ago and I still play stepmania a lot but that's it. >>531254 I played celeste but it took me like a month not because I kept getting bored. it's not even a boring game probably but I just couldn't keep myself interested for a long time whenever I played. The only games I've genuinely enjoyed lately are visual novels but I just wanted to get into something else.

You sure those VNs are not the source of your depression?

>>531487 tbh It probably is. a couple of years ago I played euphoria and ever since then I wanted nothing but to fall asleep, never wake up again and live in my own paradise.

Any Civilization game. You'll spend tons of hours in it because it's so easy to go "k only one more turn" forever. You'll get to 100 hours and it'll only feel like a short while.
The only bad side is that you pretty much have to get all the games expansions for it to be good.

Iconoclast, and anything else by Joakim Sandberg, like his previous games Noitu Love 1 & 2.

Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead is one of those free games that can suck you in and distract you forever and eat up hours if you don't pay attention
The base game is ASCII though so make sure to select one of the tilepacks for graphics so you can see everything + know what's going on, and plop in some of the officially recommended mods too. Maybe some of the unrecommended. Thats how I'm surviving the apocalypse as a wayward cyborg maid using maid martial arts and wielding a deadly mop

Granted the subject matter of dead people and the apocalypse isn't very cheery for our depression but scavenging and decking out your own little hidey hole hideout to snuggle up in can be nice. In my version you can adopt animals, so I have a pet kitty AND a baby chickie in my hideout! They're friends!

I would strongly suggest several games Free (flash) games- Mastermind: world conqueror great game, funny quips and who doesn't want to take over the world just to say you did it?
Robot clashes: a great simple yet fun rts game, 2 sides go to war, robots steadily come out and you give them little upgrades, it's also got a few challenge levels but it is pretty short
Tangerine tycoon: it's like cookie clicker but a bit more ridiculous (it also has a little stock market thingy

Now for the paid stuff Fallout: New Vegas- a truly stellar game that gives you loads of choice, (you can turn down the graphics a bit if it still can't run but it's from quite a while back) you can run through the game killing no one or everyone and if you want smooth talk your way through loads of encounters

Enter the Gungeon- a hard as nails bullet hell, you'll lose a hell of a lot, but when you win holy shit man you won, you'll feel a load of satisfaction and you'll unlock some new stuff (it's also got loads of weapons, passive items, active items, synergies, and my favorite, puns)
Besiege- a neat little game all about making machines that can do things, you've got quite a few things to use and you can make things from a wall of cannons to an airplane or even a ball of drills

Nvm already tried and got dissapointed, at least for me, looks like the perfect game for mobile, but the controls in this version are really bad (as is just faking a keyboard), I see myself spending some hours on Pc though

>>531909 I have to agree, that Enter the Gungeon is a great game, but idk, if it's something for OP, if he's already too depressed to play games in general
It's a great game, if you don't mind loosing a lot
