Not sure who else here mods their game systems but I got around to adding custom firmware to my nintendo 3DS. It's so liberating to play what I missed out on.
Not my first time either. I did this for my Vita and had a friend mod my PSP back then.

Yeah I've modded my vita recently, it's actually rather fun being able to upgrade these older systems, been playing a shit ton of BRS and Patapon it. And I've finally began playing the Trails of Cold Steel series.

I need to resurrect my vita Do people usually go for fw 3.60 or 3.65 these days?

>>b93ece I followed the main guide everyone uses on their subreddit, and it usually downgrades the console to 3.65 if you follow it correctly, thoygh I haven't done too much yet, ive only barely began messing with plugins.

>>1115272 kk I think I'm on enso 365 already so sounds like I can just leave that and redo the plugins

>>fdf297 ya, thoygh be careful especially with plugins. I've heard they're the main cause behind bricking vitas.

Most bricks from plugins afaik can be fixed by recovery on a PC or booting with r held to disable them iirc, with the exception of the og enso 365 updater
There was a bug if you did some weird steps involving installing uninstalling and something else you'd brick
was pretty funny watching flow and yiffan tell people to not do steps xyz because that's how you brick and then people were like I followed xyz and you bricked by vita?!??!

>>b93ece a I actually didn't know about that one, pretty good info to know. I'm probably not gonna go ham with too many, but now I know where to start in case I fuck it up.
Thanks :^0

>>1115297 maybe they missed a step in xyz and bricked their systems that way?
Meanwhile I was being extra thorough with installing cfw precisely as the guides say. And after that, I'm just playing it safe by not fiddling with extra stuff like plugins.
I'm just happy to be binging Resident Evil Mercenaries or whatever RPG I missed out on.

>>1115390 ok just searched it up, you had to in order
1) Install enso
2) Reflash back to stock with a 3.60 pup from sony
3) Re jailbreak
4) Run the enso installer v1.0, And pick uninstall

But it was patched pretty quickly once yiffan figured out there was a bug
Also correction to my earlier self it's og enso v1.0, not enso 356

Just read XYZs blog about it, nerd shit ahead because this stuff fascinates me
Enso does some fucky shit with the partition table, basically he found that the function that sets up the emmc would ignore the return of the check to verify that the block size was 0x200
So they would write a bigger value like 0x400 and clobber a chunk of ram, which was helpfully marked RWX so they could just write arbitrary code there
Post number #1115693, ID: b93ece
|
But it'd still need a working partition table that wasn't all fucked up so the rest of that code would redirect block 0 to block 1 where the enso installer would copy a pristine version of your original one
The uninstaller would check if you had a valid block 1 partition table and if so write that over block 0 then erase block 1
Problem is apparently restoring via a pup didn't erase block 1 so enso would copy over old partition table data over the new one

Tldr Sony restore didn't clear out a bit of memory and the enso uninstaller thought it did so it'd write invalid stuff over your working system if you ran it after having installed and restored
