SBC stands for single chip computer. There was this fad about 10 years ago where people bought raspberry pi and put it in a case imitating NES or other console. I. 2020s the Chinese have started making portable devices with SBCs inside (Anbernic, Miyoo, Ayaneo, etc.) Do you use a handheld like this?

I myself went through RG35XX, RG28XX, SF2000 to finally settle for RG ARC-S. My main issue with these devices was that they were too small and uncomfortable. SF2000 was near perfection but it has a horrible d-pad which registers left or right direction when you hold down up or down direction. Apart from that it operates on an ancient MIPS CPU that can barely handle SNES or GBA emulation. It was around 10€ so...

But in the end I'm happy with RG ARC for the circular d-pad and overall the device is the size of a standard controller. Additionally it can run some PC games like VA-11 Hall-A, Undertale, Deltarune, Cave Story, Celeste, GTA 3, VC, etc. As for emulation, it can handle some N64, Saturn and Dreamcast games, but PS1 and PSP seem to be the limit of it.

I really like when devices plagiarize old designs. RG ARC can be seen as a modern SEGA Nomad. They also have good GBA imitations. I've heard people complain about foldable devices though, the plastics on the hinge cracking with daily use. Speaking of daily use, for some reason these devices gathered a huge following of collectors that do not play games. They instead take photos of their devices to flex online. 99% of the time they just boot up the title screen and take a photo.

Might post these in advance >Just use your phone Touch screen devices aren't good for it and dedicated controllers make a Frankenstein out of your device. It doesn't help that every phone today is 21:9 so that 4:3 games leave a lot of empty space around while providing very small 4:3 estate, maybe 3 inches? >Use old console like PSP, DS These are old devices that have been town bikes for the past 20 years. They don't have an IPS display, they don't have vast emulation capabilities

And they're pricey too. For the price of a brand new RG ARC, I can get a NDS or PSP that are all scratched up, have dead batteries, lack a charger, etc.

If piracy is your main way of playing, there's really no reason to bother with decades old devices. Different story if you need physical games (sicko)

I've been debating geting one of these a steam deck. I do like how I'm more free to run what ever software I want with it. But Like most of the games that I would actually want to play on the go,(mostly smaller indie games) run fine on my switch or my laptop.
>>1085027 More pet peeve than argument, But Actually certain model numbers of "new" 3Ds models have ips screens. Though It's kinda lottery and Ofc they're pricey.
