it's a bit pricey, especially in my corner of the world. maybe the 4080 is a better choice?

why the fuck do the search results for this come up with a price tag of like, $2k? am i getting trolled? if this is real, go buy two rx 9060 xts, double them up to get the same compute and you're paying what, a third of the price?

>>1070900 future proofing my gaming pc. i don't plan to upgrade for the next 10-12 years and while the 4080 will likely suffice im left wondering if i should splurge on the graphics card and play like a king for a while.

>>1070923 I honestly don't think gaming is going to get any more graphic-intensive. Twenty years ago there might be a massive leap every year but that's just not happening anymore.
Nowadays, if you can play a new game decently, you can probably run any new game in the next ten years with no problem. Splurging on something extra expensive isn't really worth it if you don't need it professionally.

>>1070956 There was a pretty big leap recently with Alan Wake 2 and other games, and I kinda want to be able to play games at a high resolution and refresh rate in the near future too. My siblings and friends are heavily into gaming so it's a bonding thing for us and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

The last time I upgraded my PC was 10 years ago and it's starting to show. I'm still running the GTX 970. for example. It can't run the newer games, and I rarely spend money upgrading/buying new stuff, so I figured I'll do a big upgrade now and then not buy new for the next 12-15 years or so, or maybe never. I'm replacing everything, CPU, GPU, RAM, chassi, monitor etc. But I'm still on the fence about wether I should get a radeon card, the rtx 4080 or the rtx 4090.

>>1070971 My sibling and friends are into gaming too but we usually bond through fighting games and party multiplayer games, not one-upping each other's devices... eh, to each their own.
Yeah, ten years ago to today is a pretty big gap, I just don't believe today to ten years later is going to have that big a gap, gaming-wise. I personally wouldn't bet it on something that cost *googles* 600 USD more? Damn, that's a lot

But like, if you're dead-set on it and have the cash to spare, then who am I to tell you what to do?
For what it's worth, when I upgraded my PC about two years go, I went with a more budget-friendly option than full-blown splurging and I'm still very satisfied with it. Never had problem running anything (but yeah, it's only been two years)

>>1070892 what computer you have now and for what purposes? if you are ok with fullhd and playing anything for upcoming 2-3 years, i think that any 20xx or even 10xx rtx cards are fine. oppositely i wouldn't recommend 16xx or older, since they don't support DLSS, and it's really awesome to get more fps. newer models have of course newer version of dlss. oppositely raytracing

(at least in older models are yet gimmick, i have 2070S and i didn't saw real reason when use it, maybe in HL2 RTX, bright memory, quake rtx, minecraft rtx, battlefield v.. but it's more tech demos than natural place when you really use it)
important thing what you take in mind is that whole videogame industry is always limited by consoles. Now is there PS5 which is 5 years old consoles, even if there existed nasa computer there won't exists videogames for nasa computers

since all is designed for being console friendly and could being able to use it. oppositely we are behind half way to PS6, and computer what you will buy now can be slowly getting old already at moment when will PS6 show up. i would buy any rtx card which is good enough for you andd ideally upgrade when will new console show up (or when you will think that your computer is already weak), but it can costs 2-3x more than console tbh. whatever you will choose please be happy ^^

The only way to futureproof your shit is to buy, say, hardware for 1440p and play on 1080p. Thats what I do, for example. And even then it is like for maybe 10 years tops.
