....why do people play this?I'm a MTG and battle spirit saga player and gave this a try at my card shop and it's god awful.
is there a reason ygo players play besides Stockholm induced nostalgia

Asian here, never heard of MTG until I heard a youtuber that I regularly watched gushed about it. Meanwhile I watched yugioh's anime, played their sloppily made game on PS1, PS2, DS, PSP, and 3DS. It is also available on mobile and PC nowadays. Can be played for free on Ygopro

I remember being a kid who had no context for this stuff and yugioh appealed a lot more just based on the looks.
Once I learned the context yugioh was still better because MTG was for sweaty turbo nerds.
I remember telling my family I had played MTG for the first time and liked it, and they said "just please for the love of god don't play D&D"....I already had the player handbook on my shelf.

>>970423 At least back when it was new, it was more accessible than MTG with cards that would allow for very swingy matches that would have fun comebacks. MTG also requires more turns to get things going because of mana management, whereas even in early Yu-Gi-Oh you could start getting shit going on turn 1. That said both are bloated corpses at this point.

>>970449 A lot of TTRPG players are being very contrarian about D&D right now, which is pretty lolworthy. Back when 4e came out everyone was riding 3.5/PF dick, and before Critical Role came out none of them had a problem with 5e, but now it's mainstream so it's bad. Not saying D&D doesn't have problems but it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be.
