Robert Benchley, the drunk
| Another time when it was raining, Benchley only had to go three blocks to a theater to cover the opening of a play.As he came out of the restaurant, he spotted a man walking with an umbrella.
Benchley jumped along side of the many, in the dryness of the umbrella and said "drop me off at the Music Box theater please."
Benchley shared a small office with Dorothy Parker.In fact it was so small that (as Benchley put it)"one cubic bit less and it would have been considered adultery."

| I thought I would offer some old stories about one of the most
famous drunks of the 1930's, Robert Benchley. Benchley was a
writer of short stories and screenplays. Besides being a drunk
he was one of the wits of the time.
One night Benchley came out of the Algonquin Hotel, and asked a
uniformed man if he would get him a taxi. The man said,
"Sir, I'll have you know I am an admiral in the U.S. Navy."
"Perfectly alright, then get me a battleship." Said Benchley
