Bottling Emotions?

| I feel like I never learned how to process negative emotions. I can acknowledge them, think through them, put them aside, talk about them, view them from different perspectives and angles, but I don't think I understand how people process or adapt to them properly. Like emotional dissociation or something (is that a thing?). I think this is considered bottling emotions, but I'm used to that portrayed as just passively ignoring them. Any other g/u/rls with similar thoughts?

Sounds like you can process your emotions just fine. Like, "bottling" implies they'll burst if you open the cap. If you can talk about them just okay, you're fine.

And don't worry about how other people do it. Everybody handles their emotions differently. There really isn't one specific way that's the right way.

| >>779625 Mhmm. Last night I have been enjoying an outburst of not one, not two, but four whole unresolved traumas being triggered by the same thing. Now that was (is) some high quality bottled emotions. What OP is doing is basically a description of how handling emotions _should_ be done. Good on her.

| Maybe I just also don't know what to do, but the idea of 'processing' or 'adapting' has always seemed like a vague one. What is it that makes you feel like you can't process them like other people can?

Yeah, that's kinda true.
You see OP, I'm someone who used to bottle up emotions. Still do it sometimes, but, mainly used to. What makes it you bottling up emotions is that, well, you can't handle them. You mostly ignore them, you never try to get to the root of what makes you feel those things, and you live your life as if you don't have them until it gets too much and you burst. Bursting usually being you having full on mental breakdowns.
Do you ever experience that?
