I've noticed that a lot of people from other countries think of Norway as a sort of utopia, and some might even consider moving here to have better living conditions. I'm not here to deny it probably being one of the better countries to live in rn, but I do want to put out some "insider information" for people who might think like that. Idk if there are any g/u/rls who do, but this is also sort of a vent for me, so, I'm gonna put it out there anyways.

We have it good, but, idk how much longer it will last. Norway isn't as progressive as some people seem to think and we're not making much progress. By that I mean that acceptance of LGBT+ and POC isn't exactly the greatest. Discrimination and general bigotry is extremely normalised here. Even though violence against minorities isn't too extreme, the treatment of them is, not great. Casual racism, hatred, promotion of stereotypes and general fear mongering is absolutely everywhere.

One thing that a lot of people see as a great thing about Norway is the wages. People in Norway get paid more than in, well, most other countries. What people aren't aware of is that everything here is way more expensive than in other countries. So while minimum wage here might be 10% more than in another country, we also have to pay a good percentage more for stuff that costs way less in other places, which kind of defeats the purpose. Though, we still are more wealthy on average.

Which is a good thing. Very much so, and I'm glad that we do have a higher standard of living. But the problem with that is the direction the country is going in. You see, Norway has prided itself on having a high standard of living, free high-quality healthcare, and that kind of stuff. But, the government has slowly but surely been making the rich richer and everyone who isn't poorer, as well as making the "free" healthcare less and less free, and they show no sign of stopping.

If you enjoy ordering things online, you'll be doing that a lot less here. Shipping costs to Norway are extremely high, to the point where you sometimes have to pay more than what you're paying for the actual item in taxes and shipping fees. That's for the standard shipping, be it cheap or expensive items. A fair amount of items and even some full sites just don't ship to Norway outright. That includes a big portion of the catalogue on sites as big as Amazon.

Our system for mental health is weird. To get into the system in the first place you usual have to see a regular doctor that sends you to a therapist. Said therapist is not someone who can really help you with your mental health issues, but might tell you to try smiling more. Then you have to have one or more sessions with that therapist until that therapist sends you into the actual mental health care system, and only about 40-50% of people actually get proper help in that system.

Do you enjoy alcohol? Well, the government has full monopoly on selling all alcohol above 4.7%, and they bump up the prices a lot. A bottle that might cost $10 in your country can easily cost $30-40 in Norway. Oh, and the government alcohol stores are only open for a few hours a day, and they're not open every day. So, have fun with that. Do you like other substances? Weed maybe? Well, if you get caught with that you'll get a sentence that can fuck over your entire life.

Every single political party that has enough popularity to have a chance to win the votes is self-destructive in one way or another, so even though the party that has been in power for a while now and been leading the charge when it comes to slowly but surely regressing the country and worsening the discrimination problems I mentioned earlier, whichever party replaces it won't be stopping that momentum and some might even speed it up even more.

But other than that, Norway is pretty nice. We have some cool mountains. A couple good dishes. And if you have the money to afford going on a vacation here then you'll probably enjoy it. We're a very friendly country to foreigners who are only visiting. At least if you stay away from certain parts of the city you're in and you don't mind people making fun of you and potentially saying some very racist shit about you in a language you don't understand.

Oh, I almost forgot. There's also an organisation here called SIAN. It's basically the Norwegian KKK, but instead of focusing on black people they focus on Muslims. Their front is that they're fighting against terrorism, but literally all notable terrorist attacks in Norway, especially in recent times, have been committed by white Christians. The same ones that are part of organisations like SIAN. So if you come here, watch out for that. They're fucking insane.

Despite all those problem and issues, it looks like fucking heaven in comparison to Brazil, sadly, where I was born from, but I noticed a trend here, a lot of those things you spoke about are issues that arrived from right extremism, and South America, in general always had issues with left wing extremism, so overall, extremism fucks over with everything, one in one way and the other in other way. About SIAN, people with easy lives search for problems to fulfill them.

Since you are Scandinavian, op, do you mind sharing about what you know of your neighbours, the other scandinavian countries? I mean, you must know something, people always looks up to Scandinavia in general as a developed place.

>>777020>>777205 I like it. Norway really does seem like an awesome country, maybe the best in the world. Now to safeguard that nation's positive systemic aspects. Is it possible that you are lying and that the decrease in equality is not the poor getting poorer but just Norway becoming even richer? >>777303 He doesn't want to talk about Sweden

>>777302 Oh, yeah. I'm not in any way denying that we have it way better than a good amount of other places. I just wanted to clear up the misconception that it's some sort of utopian paradise. And, yeah. Extremism fucks over everything.
>>777303 I mean, what's there to say? Sweden is Norway but slightly worse. Denmark is just kinda there, pretty chill, don't know too many details though. Finland and Iceland seem like they've got their shit together tbh. Seem more progressive too.

>>5bfb12 I was joking about immigration, as a Brazilian, with some luck the best I could do at first would be Portugal, then somewhere like Austria/Netherlands/Belgium/Germany at best, but even so I need luck and money I don't have. I have portuguese descent, that would allow me to have a Portuguese citizenship, but I have to find some docs I have not been able to find so far.

>>777550 I mean, that's very person to person. I see natives who go both sides and I see immigrants who go both sides. Why some immigrants do that, I have no idea. But that's honestly pretty rare here. What's a lot less rare though and fucks me up is LGBT people swearing by one of the most conservative parties we have. The type of party that says "Yeah we're aight with faggots" once and then all those brainwashed jits suck their dick, which is why conversion therapy is still legal.

>>777556 Yeah. That's something I've noticed though. All the Brazilians I've ever talked with who aren't like that are absolute geniuses. Like, a good friend of mine is Brazilian. He's an absolute fucking mastermind and excells at literally anything he does as if he's been training constantly for 20 years, but he's 15 or some shit. Like, it seems like that's everyone in Brazil. Either kinda fucked or some of the best, smartest and most talented people you'll ever meet.

Good Post OP. I live in a thirld world country in south America, and we really look up to you Nordic guys.
And yeah, I know your country is not perfect, but it seems a paradise in comparison against our countries. And I mean that truly.
I'm currently looking forwards to inmigrate to Canada or some good European Country, because life here is just not great.

>>777559 I know. But you'll get opportunities one way or another, and if you take them, something will happen one way or another. Even if it's not something you'd ever even consider as potentially a possibility. Shit just, happens. So even if you don't get out at all, you'll find something. But I believe you'll find a way.

>>777561 Oh, yeah, of course. I don't want people to take this as me thinking I live in a bad country by any means. I'm fucking blessed to be born here, even though it's a country that doesn't like me. Like, most places in the world are very much worse to live in.
I wish you the best of luck with that! If the elections go well then Norway good be a decent option when COVID calms down. Definitely do a lot of research on other countries too though. Might find something more fitting.

In the end we are all human, you may have been teached different languages but, the meaning behind it is still the same, we are still vulnerable in the same and can still feel joys ans sorrows in the same form, we should only be judged by our character, actions, intelect, conquests, morals and ideas. Take care buddy.
