I'm quitting my first job (cashier) later this week. I've been encouraged to for a while by my family as the conditions and management where I was working was terrible, even though I couldn't get a new one yet.
However, the first day after I gave my notice while clocking in I ran into a manager. She put me on the spot asking me where I'm now working. In panic I lied and mentioned I already have a new job.
Will this bite me in the ass later while applying?

While applying where? You think your manager will hunt you down and tell on anyone who might hire you?
I think you're overthinking this.

Let me tell you something: leaving your current job due to it's bad conditions is perfectly normal, and it requires courage, especially if you don't have any other job "secured". But lying about having another job is kinda stupid; I understand you panicked, but yeah, still think it's kinda stupid.
Just stick to that lie, and if they ever ask again, just say that, due to contract conditions, you can't disclose any information.

>>765133 Believe me, this kind of shit happens, that's why you always try to leave in good terms

Thanks everyone, I really appreciated the advice, I forgot to thank y'all earlier.
Also, >>1a6772 I do agree with you that it was a dumb move. Unfortunately I was put on the spot by a manager who also is pretty mean and snotty at times. So I kind of panicked when I did that.
Thankfully everything seems to have worked out okay.
