I think that depends a lot on the country you live in and if you still have those same mental issues. I know most places will allow some mental issues, and I don't think the scars matter at all as long as you've managed to quit self-harm.

OP, in the US you'll need to pass a mental health exam for all branches of service, so yes, it could affect your chances of enlisting, if you live there.

We have mandatory service in my country and they didn't let my history of panic attacks stop them. If you're not current cutting yourself it's probably fine.

i talked about military service to a guy who served, since i was thinking about joining. he told me that if you arent joining for a specialized job then you're going to be treated like canon fodder.
