| Is it impossible to join the military if I have self harm scars and a history of mental illness

| which military?

| r/military have some kind people, you can ask there

| It makes it harder, but not impossible.

| I think that depends a lot on the country you live in and if you still have those same mental issues. I know most places will allow some mental issues, and I don't think the scars matter at all as long as you've managed to quit self-harm.

| Why would you want to join the military tho?

| OP, in the US you'll need to pass a mental health exam for all branches of service, so yes, it could affect your chances of enlisting, if you live there.

| Just say you have a really aggressive cat :)

| We have mandatory service in my country and they didn't let my history of panic attacks stop them. If you're not current cutting yourself it's probably fine.

I, don't recommend that. It's such a common and hard to believe excuse that most people see right through it. Just be honest about it instead. That's way more respectable.

| i talked about military service to a guy who served, since i was thinking about joining. he told me that if you arent joining for a specialized job then you're going to be treated like canon fodder.

Well, yeah. That's what the normal footsoldiers are. They're just cannon fodder. I thought that was common knowledge.
