I understand that it's a containment board but i'd rather prefer for it to not exist and just apply the banhammer to any toxic poster who babbles about politics, throws racial slurs or just forces arguments elsewhere. If these people don't get attention they eventually leave.

I don't think most people see the world this way. Only a minority appears brainwashed and they can't be talked with about any issue at all, unlike most people who you can easily debate even if you disagree.

Anyways, there is this one bit in VA-11 Hall-A with Stella and Art having a discussion that I would like to turn into a banner for /new/ one of these days.

There use to be no real news on there, or rarely ever, until they moderated that board more heavily and started posting news articles

The opposite is actually true. 2 years ago they had a sticky with rules about posting and you needed to post source for all your threads or else they got locked.
Today we have no rules and zero moderation. They just lock threads that derails into off-topic shit-flinging.
The users made /news/ what it is today. There's no question about it.
