Is Steelseries Arctis 3 (the wired one) a good headset?

| not sure if this should go in /tech/ or not, but this board seems to be a little more, well, alive

i'm looking for a general use (mostly music and gaming) headset that's under $100 and has a mic, and it seems like the best option in this price range (the universally loved HyperX Cloud II, a.k.a. the best headset, is around $120 here)

has anyone here used this model, or any other recent Steelseries headsets? what's your opinion?

| I dunno

| Not a clue

| I've had some sound quality issues with steelseries before, their software is shit and u gotta get third party stuff to make the headset sound acceptable

| I'm using Arctis 5 since release, and i feel happy about them.. (i do recommend 5 for chat mix feature)

| I also use the 5 for the audio mix between discord and game audio, but the audio is a bit "bassy" so I usually try to balance it.

| But know that most gaming headphones are cheap Chinese things and the ski headband is absolutely disliked by some people.

| Like think of beats headphones, that sells like butter because it's an icon despite being cheap Chinese headphones that're naturally has a bunch of bass and that's labelled as """"""premium""""""

| But for all intents and purposes it's a fine choice, just not if you're an audiophile.

well that doesn't sound good...

unfortunately 5 is really overpriced here (+no black friday deals for those too...) and i'm used to windows sound mixer already anyway

>>719762
well i already use cheap chinese headphones (superlux or some such) and a cheap standalone mic, do it can't be worse probably... still wanna get the most bang for my buck though

i wonder if hyperx cloud stinger core (the pc version) is any better? i really want cloud 2 but it's overpriced

| sooo i ended up ordering it, should take a couple days to arrive. saved like 30% thanks to black friday. and with free shipping to the door, which is nice too. guess i'll post my first impressions when it arrives, if someone's interested

for 100 maybe, but i ended up grabbing them for around 60 (not sure on the current conversion rate), so it seems like a good deal anyway. i've had some...rather unfortunate experience with standalone mics. though that might've had something to do with my setup or some setting or whatnot, but my voice always ended up sounding really quiet and kinda muffled. though as for headphones, i completely agree, "normal" ones are usually better. but, well, we'll see

| Which Superlux are you using atm? I bet they're way better than the arctis. Superlux makes some fucking amazing cans for insanely low prices. Swap those earpads on the 668B to leather ones and you're good to go. + Modmic and you're happy.

hd681 evo with fake leather earpads. they sound pretty good, i think, but the build quality is not great. i've had to swap the cable a few times already (and it's not intemded to be swapped) and the headband is literally falling apart where it connects to the headphones themselves, so i thought i'd get myself something new

| I bet you'll be a bit underwhelmed by the sound quality of the arctis then. .-. But we shall see. The 681s are cheap as heck and they're sure build that way but the sound quality is actually excellent. >>720183

But we shall see, please give some feedback here, when you tried that headset! I think it would be quite interesting.

| Buy the Corsair HS60s. Wired version. Best gaming headset I've had

those seem a bit more expensive... they don't seem to be available in my country so the shipping is gonna cost a lot too... and i ordered the steelseries one already anyway

| received the headset today. sound is alright, though a bit flat (definitely less bass than superlux had), not a fan of the "noise cancelling" closed back either. but it's good enough

the mic is another story. there's a lot of background noise, and i mean a lot. even my old cheap-ass usb mic was better. now, i think it's because the old mic was usb and the headset uses 3.5mm jacks. pc isn't grounded (none of the outlets have ground), that's probably what creates noise on the jacks.

| A cheap usb-adc could be what you're looking for, to fix that mic.

i've thought about that, but won't a cheap usb sound card completely ruin the sound? and more expensive ones are, well, expensive

| so yeah... i guess i will just return this headset. gotta patch up my old superlux headphones with some tape and keep using them with the standalone mic. really unfortunate.

| And here comes my humble suggestion - get some superlux hd688b, grab yourself leather earpads on aliexpress or something (they're actually quite nice) and get a used modmic. :3 ~70-80 bucks in total and those pads are optional ofc but I highly recommend them.

| Feelsbadman though. >>720797

i'd rather not get anything used... besides, i can't find any in my country, so the shipping is gonna be pretty expensive too. well, whatever. maybe i'll save up for cloud 2 after all. some of my friends are using it on discord and it seems to sound pretty good.
