I've been using kaspersky for many years, but starting this year it breaks youtube. Tech support said they'll fix it buy the end of october, but they don't so I'm thinking of bailing when my subscription ends next week. But I don't know much affordable alternatives tbh. Used to use eset at some point, but it's suposedly worse.

I haven't really needed anything more than adblock (not an antivirus obviously, but keeps a lot of malware sources away), windows defender and rigorous virustotal usage in a long, long while. To be fair though, I've mostly stopped visiting any suspicious/untrustworthy sites, and even then I'd say I know my way around them.

uBlock origin addon for firefox, built-in Windows defender, and common sense.
Antivirus programs these days just make your computer slow.
Remember registry cleaners? Well, they were useful before Windows XP. 3rd party Antivirus programs were useful before Windows 10. I believe the latest Windows 10 definitions are built with both the Malewarebytes' and Norton's definition files, as well as the Microsoft sample submission system.

I don't notice it impacting it too much, but I guess if common sense works for you, should be enough.

Common sense is crap. Just think and do things carefully, without trusting your "instincts", that's how you do things properly. And yes, that's bothersome.
