I've never actually read anything like that, but I'd like to change this little fact since it's Spooktober! Are there any good horror or/and thriller books out there that you can recommend?

Oh! One more thing I forgot to mention! No ghost stories, alright? I really don't understand this supernatural thing. Like.. why would anyone feel the need to create some demons and shit to be afraid of, when people we live among turn out to be the scariest monsters one can even imagine?

Hammer On Bone by Cassandra Khaw.
>>705323 It's not exactly "just human", but I wouldn't call it supernatural either. It's extremely well written with a really cool concept, and the horror parts of it are centered around humans.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux is good too.

Horns by Joe Hill. It's not a SPOOKY kind of horror, more like a mirror on how fucked-up people are. A bit of the supernatural, but it integrates well into the humans-are-the-real-monsters part.
>>705331 Haven't heard of this before but the synopsis I read online just sold me. Thanks for the rec!

>>705439 Just keep the literature thread coming then. If there's enough with enough interaction we'll probably get a board.

HP Lovecraft has some stories that don't involve supernatural and cosmic entities, it's worth checking it out.
Also, as >>705435 says, Stephen King has a lot of books. Gerald's game has had a movie adaptation recently. There's also Misery.

>>705435 Dang am I the only one who don't like Stephen King? Granted, I've only read Salems' Lot and some of his short stories but his stories just rubs me the wrong way. They're not spooky/scary, only occasionally disturbing, but not in the way I'm looking for. It also feels... I'm not sure how to put this, distastefully American?
I like his son (Joe Hill)'s works a lot more.

You should try the classics: Frankenstein (Mary Shelley), Dracula (Bram Stoker), The Monkey's paw (W.W.Jacobs) Or maybe try watching stories some movies are based on, like "World War Z" and "I am a Legend"

>>705564 >Watching World War Z
Please don't. The movie has next to nothing to do with the book. It's just a generic zombie action movie.
The book though! The book's pretty good! It's not really a horror or thriller, I feel. The tone is more introspective. It's written in the style of a report/interviews of people who survived the zombie war.
