what does ( mean as an emote?

| i've seen russians and czech people use it as an emote a lot of times in mmo games
what's up with that?

| Shorter version of ":("

| Imagine feeling the need to shorten that. Damn. Russians don't fuck around.

| Oh czechs use it as well? That's cool )

| Jeez, that made me laugh so hard! It's not even that funny, but something about this whole thread is strangely amusing.

I'm from Russia myself and I just don't get it. Is it actually that hard to guess what this emote means? I don't mean it as an insult, don't get me wrong! I'm actually curious. Seems pretty transparent and obvious, does it not? Especially when seen in action, in real conversations with some context.

| That's actually pretty interesting, isn't it? I would have never even thought of people not guessing the meaning of, well, any emotes for that matter. It just seems like people use the same basic stuff to express their feelings on the Internet, no matter where they live, you know? I've thought of emotes and emojis being internationall, easily understandable by anyone. Wonder if there's more such things as "(" that can be confusing out there

| >>701427 most likely, I imagine not everyone will get like how Japanese internet uses wwwwwwwww as a form of lol because "double u" is simmular to their world for laughter or something

Mmhm, guess you're right. It may be rather hard to guess the meaning unless you know the context of this one

Hmm. I think that perhaps russian words cannot be shorten in the same way as english ones (like "4 u" instead of for you)? So this ":" could cost a lot in the era of SMS with limited number of words?
