Dry Thunderstorm

| Today we had a 97°F / 38°C high. Now it's 3:30 AM and I'm watching lightning through my window. I live on a coast, and the weather here is usually very mild, so I haven't seen anything like this in a while.

The lightning is also flashing much more often than it does in a normal thunderstorm. I wonder if the heat or lack of rain affects that?

| about 45 minutes after it started, there were a few spurts of rain. they went by quickly, but it was heavy while it was raining. now it's dry again. it's mostly calm, but there was one bolt that set off the car alarm across the street, and i got four 'woke up to lightning' messages from friends.

| Where do you live, op?

| Was it red colored? I hear that that tends to happen with dry lightning.

>>689345 The lightning was mostly behind our redwood trees, but the flashes were white.

according to this morning's weather information, it wasn't totally dry, it just had a small radius of rain. there was a hail warning, though, even though it's still 80° at night.
