I'm going into tech and right off the bat, some software and potential jobs I may end up working with in the future require knowledge of Japanese.
Luckily, I'm still fairly young, so I got time on my hand, but I have no idea about any Japanese or other language learning services that aren't going to burn my wallet.
Anybody got suggestions on good options?

Duolingo is actually neat, and I just started learning actually. Head to the other thread where they're practicing, i think it's still active. They got suggestions on what resources to use too.

Duolingo is actually terrible to start learning Japanese, imo. It's good for practice, but not when you're completely new to it.
Tae Kim's guide (http://www.guidetojapanese.org/) is a pretty good place to start and get some grammar down. Wanikani (https://www.wanikani.com/) is a good place to learn Kanji. Even if you don't want to pay, its beginner levels is at least worth a try.

For Kanji Wanikani is great.
