What if ancient myths and legends were actually fanfics

If you think about it humans has a knack for making up silly stories. It's not like they had book publishers back in the indus river valley civilization, or books at all, so any dumbass with a creative mind might just decide to carve their wild fantasy into a stone or sum shit. I haven't slept in 24 hours btw.

I mean... Dante basically fanboyed over Virgil, and self inserted himself into a piece of fiction with his homeboy Virgil. That was in his poem The Divine Comedy.

This is very probably true. And I'm pretty sure a lot of myths is just one guy telling the story, forgetting the details, and then making things up to fill it.
Heck I know *I* made up details when I forget the story I'm telling out loud.
More religious people will probably protect their canon more fiercely, but the self-inserts are probably there.

I could see it, and then over time people forgot that it was fanfiction and the fanfiction turned into Canon, then myths and legends.

Gnosticism is basically a collection of bible au fanfiction, sometimes with thematic crossovers and shit thrown in for a good measure and i love it honestly The term "Canon" even comes from religious debates and then it meant "communal agreement on what happened" or somesuch

>>642028 I'll do you better: Christianity as a whole is just a canon divergent adaptation/reboot of Iudaism that somehow become more popular than the original Their fans even officially went full continuity divorce and shit, as you do when seeing a shitty film adaptation or a sequel and just cancel it but it's every-fucking-where now
