my parents saw my discord account while i was doing stuff

| forgot to lock the computer and pretty much discord was the only thing open so they saw
>my anime pfp
>my name
>all the messages
>they managed to scroll through the server list and saw some shit probably
they talked to me about it and just complained about the fact that i dont use irl pics anywhere
fucking hell

| fucking hell (/_;)

| fucking hell

| >Using real pictures anywhere
Your parents are failures.

| having sex with hell

| What? Wouldn't it be safer for you to not use your irl pic, I don't see their problem

| out of all things they had problem with your profile pic?

| >use real pictures
>on discord

either troll or your parents mistook discord for facebook.

| Your parents suck, like why the fuck are they snooping through your pc anyways

| >>625683
I use real pic on Discord...

>>625692
Yeah, that's fucked.

| trouble is if you talk about safety concerns using real pic theyll just say "well if its that unsafe you shouldnt be there"

sorry your folks are boomer and invasive as fuck

| If your parents actually gave a fuck about your online activities they'd just buy your info from one of many brokers shitcord works with. You're being constantly datamined by discord, so why do you care about such thing as privacy? Or are you simply unaware tech-illiterate little shit?
Why aren't underage retards banned here, anyway?

| >>625705

this bait was a little too strong. mfw "buy your info from a discord broker for this user in particular."

i r8 it a 3/10.

| >>625710
Yeah. Sounds like some paranoid 11 year old tried to write a cyberpunk story, but pretends it's real.

| >>625710 >>625714
regardless of her inciteful language, discord is really bad, and i share her distaste for the service. good cyberpunk citizens should use software that respects the user.

| >>625730
I really don't care if they take my info though, even though I very much doubt they take more than what I willingly provide. But, like, who the fuck cares about what I talk about on fucking Discord? Like, if someone were to actually somehow buy info on me from Discord that's just wasted money. I have my real name as my username, I have my real face as my pfp, and if someone buys my number or conversations, I really don't care.

| >>625734
lots of us do care very deeply about privacy, which is why many uf of are very frustrated that the people we want to talk to insist on using these platforms that have grown to be so popular among people who either dont care or are simply ignorant that their privacy is being violated

| Are your parents idiots, OP? Back in my day, you would never put your real name, let alone a picture with it.

| >>625734

The main reason you'd not want to be so brazen with using your real name and real pictures is more to do with your future opportunities and personal security. Employers increasingly scour social media as part of their background checking process and will often deny you a job for anything so much as an unpopular political opinion; if you go into any sort of creative field, being able to find you with a reverse image search is a great way to get "cancelled" online if someone exposes your conversations or, more likely, associates you with some part of your discord servers that others may find taboo. For example, if you're part of any pornographic servers. Consider also that when discords are nuked for something illegal, like exchanging child pornography (real or imagined), a userlist is most certainly sent to the authorities who will start with the easiest to trace users.

Next, its actually very easy for anyone to find you with a real IRL pic and a real name, leading to a rough approximation or completely accurate address. While it may seem like that information is useless to anyone who doesn't want you dead, it *also* makes you the perfect candidate to use to commit fraud, presuming you're not underage and already know why anyone with a job should care about that.

| >>625760
All of that is true, but, idk. You mentioned creative fields. If I ever get work in a creative field I would most likely be expressing my more unpopular views in that creative work, so that's irrelevant. I'm not part of any porn focused server, and I'm not on any server that exchanges CP or could be mistaken for it. If I ever become well known to the point that someone would want my address they would already have my face and name anyway.
I am actually underage.

| >>625760
very good way to frame the issue to boomer parents. real name and face = employer turns you away

| >>625771

Fair enough. I suppose in your case, the potential for your name and face being co-opted for fraudulent actions is still a possibility, though. I mentioned the age thing because sometimes Nigerian scammers ("Please help I am a us marine trapped overseas i need monies.") will comb through facebook, grab someone's profile, and wear their identity as a sort of mask while victimizing people- with consequences for the real person IRL. I feel like that's less likely to happen if you're younger, because people can only bullshit so much.

>>625773

Good point.

| >>625796
Eh, I'm not really scared of that. I don't use the bigger social media platforms like Facebook. Sure, I have a profile, but I don't care about it. I don't hold a position or live in a place where something like that would be realistic. Like, I don't really have any bait potential. I don't really care either. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I don't see the point in worrying about stuff like that.

| >>625734
>I very much doubt they take more than what I willingly provide
Yeah, like your uuid, your every action inside the client, all your text, images and voip, phone number if you happen to login through """weird""" network - which in most cases is directly tied to your real identity, and only god knows what else if you happen to be retarded and use a native client instead of sandboxing this piece of shit in the browser.

| >>625710
>>625714
>information markets don't exist
>he believes in 'non-personally identifiable information' mantra even after he's asked for his mobile number
>data breaches never happen
>corporate databases never leaked into the wild
>stolen identities are a myth
>n-no you're just paranoid h-ha-ha
:^)

| >>625828
u a meanie
bad g/u/rl

| Seems like a bunch of meaningless complaints.

| >>625836 nah. She's just trying to warn you. Be careful with social media, because they mine every bit of your data. If you think for a second they actually care about user privacy or security, you're way wrong g/u/rl. Leaks and the rest of the stuff above happen all the time. Please protect yourself!

| Don’t bother with this sort of critique

| But with the people in the thread, please heed their words.

| >>625826
Yup. I really do care about that shit.

| >>625928
Well if you don't care about being spied on then suit yourself. Might as well plug wave transmitter up your ass to relay your exact location to discord hq 24/7. Oh wait, you probably already do that with your smartphone, silly me.

| >>625622 damn.

| >>625931
Uh, ok? As I said, I really don't care. If they know my location then good for them I guess.

| >>625846
I meant the way of phrasing that
Could have used some pedagogy yknow just like you did

| >>625931 4chan sizos are everywhere.

| I support everyone who shit on discord itt.
Alos apparently stating well documented facts is now considered schizophrenia, nice.
``People'' like these fags >>0f5a20 >>5b6c37 are the reason web technology has gone to absolute shit in recent years. Smartphones were a mistake.

| >>625967
Saying you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide equals saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

| >>625967
Saying you don't care about privacy because you have nothing to hide equals saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

| >>626120
Kinda, but it's different. If y'all are paranoid then don't use the software you're complaining about.

| >>626147
>y'all
Consider suicide.

Of course I don't use that piece of turd, but that doesn't mean I won't speak out against it.

| >>626150
I don't see the point in that though. Just avoid it. Why worry about something that doesn't affect you?

| >>626163
Because I want to talk about it, smartass. Apply your logic to your own post and see why you're full of shit.
If you don't want to read opinions that don't correspond to yours I suggest you fuck off to reddit or twitter.

| >>626164
I use the platform and am giving my opinion on it, that's what this conversation is about. You reply aggressively about things that don't affect you in any way. There's an obvious difference.

| >>626178
No mate, we're both sharing our opinions and there's absolutely no difference whatsoever, except you happen to lack skeletal structure to handle some banter.

| >>626190 read: trying to disrupt the conversation people are trying to have for fun. Make your own thread, dumbass

| >>626196
>everything I disagree with is 'disrupting conversation'
Read >>626164 and consider my suggestion, faggot.

| >>626201 i don't care about discord or not, i just don't like obvious trolls

| >>6593a2 :
>I don't like Discord because people can hold me accountable for being an asshole. Time to overexaggerate any problems it has to justify my avoidance of it instead of considering my personal failures!

| oh wait if I'm going to mock you I have to remember to include an irrelevant insult at the end of every post, shitlord
