Is there actually any merit in doing salvia? I know ingenious south Americans did it for religious purposes but from what I've read it just seems to make you hallucinate and be confused, unlike psychedelics where you can get some actual insight.

Salvia is a cheap, naturally occurring and more legal alternative to serious psychedelics. Plus, it is literally a plant you can grow, no chemistry required.

Crimson weed is cheap/free too and is also naturally occurring but that doesn't mean people use it. Most people who tried regrets doing it.
Also magic mushrooms are free and naturally occurring as well.
