| So I checked out the new lbry website which is the new competitor to youtube and so far they claim they will not censor most things. So far I've seen people being openly racist and videos talking about how gay people have been planning to destroy the world by fucking up the concept of only two genders for a long time.

Now I don't give a shit about anything but how long do you think this site will last before people get triggered and everyone goes back to youtube?

| damn captcha.. feel free to close one of these posts

| seeing as i never even heard of this place until you brought it up, i'm guessing... not very long?

| I've never heard of it before either

| Why was the other one closed? Kinda ironic that a thread about censorship gets censored.

But I think people are just being edgy because they're advertising that they won't censor most things so internet people being trolls, no surprise. Triggered or not though, I honestly just don't see Youtube being overtaken by a competitor anytime soon even with how bad it's been to content creators these past years.

| Ohhh lol because it was a double post. I'm an idiot. Kinda just assumed with the closing of so many threads with related topics that this was just another one

| >>573793
wat

| >>573829

the g/u/rl made a comment without reading the OP's second post lol.

| OP is shilling their site indirectly, I guess...
Never heard of this lbry thing, the only YouTube competitor I know is BitChute(unless you count pornhub, lol)

| >>573874 I unironically count Pornhub.

| >>573874 not my site I just heard about it recently (yesterday) from one of those YouTube videos with complaining YouTubers and wanted to know what you guys thought since there are not really a lot of sites out there trying to compete with YouTube. At the moment it seems kind of shit thought because you have to install a program to watch videos and anything you watch gets automatically download even if you just watched a second or two of it.

| By advertising 'no censorship' they're obviously gonna get people who are worried about being censored. They should have promoted 'no garbage neural net reccommending me TOY UNBOXING (PRANK (GONE WRONG)) 24 HOURS - BABY SHARK EDITION or whatever the fuck is popular with 6 year olds whose parents think youtube autoplay is the solution to parenting to end all others' and had some quality content instead.

| >>573874

It's an actual thing because apparently its entire platform is descentralized, no government will be able to censor or even shut down this platform. It's legitimate, that's why it's an application and not a website that you can easily remove via contacting its server hoster like bitchute.

| sounds cool, i'll try it

| Ah, I recieved a ton of ads for that months ago! Took a look but never really got into it. Perhaps I should do some more digging. If one of you g/u/rls have an account, I'll totally give you some Bitcoin. My dad owns Bitcoin, so I can have as many as I want.

| >>574001
nobody owns bitcoin & you're as poor as me

| >>573961

hold the fuck up, its a decentralized youtube?

thats actually pretty cool, OP made it just seem like another youtube with staff who claim they will never censor content, which is way different.

| >>574023 Yes, it's descentralized. I'm surprised this still hasn't gotten as much recognition as of yet as it should have. Maybe it'll catch on soon, there's nothing like it.

| so.. it's d.tube? bitchute.com?? what's so special apart from it being an executable separate from you browser, meaning increased risk of system vulnerability?

Read >>573961

i've got the sneaking suspicion that you're describing ZeroNet.

there i said it, you're happy?

| >>574032 It's not affiliated with ZeroNet.

| >>574034
so that's the difference?

| >>574037 It's a video sharing platform only, without the use of cryptocurrency. Not sure why you're getting so defensive and antagonist over this concept, it's not like it's ever been done before in this aspect.

| >>573860
The g/u/rl uses bait to make me respond and it works.
I kinda replied to the second post.
And I read it.

| >>573885 I unironically use Pornhub's SFW tag to search for memes and to watch Noble's uncensored vn games.

| >>574120 wait.... Noble posts the uncensored version of his videos to pornhub?
Ok now it's become the real shit and I'm in

| >>573961 so it's like IPFS meets YouTube?

| Just looked up LBRY annnd.... I think I'll join it.

OP was selling it short, its not just an alternative Youtube, they're trying to be an alternative... everything.

lbry.com/faq

| >For most users, LBRY will be a place where they can find great videos, music, ebooks, and more: imagine a vast digital library that is available on all of your devices. But under the hood, LBRY is many components working together.

>First and foremost, LBRY is a new protocol which allows anyone to build apps that interact with digital content on the LBRY network. Apps built on the protocol allow creators to upload their work to the LBRY network of hosts (like BitTorrent), and set a price per stream or download (like iTunes) or give it away for free (like YouTube without ads).

| I'm almost certain this thread was locked yesterday.
But now it's unlocked...
Nice!

| "How does LBRY handle and respond to a DMCA request or takedown notice?
Upon receipt of a DMCA request from the content owner or legal representative, LBRY Inc. will use its best judgment to determine validity. We will block access to content deemed infringing in any LBRY Inc. owned applications. LBRY Inc. will also remove any data related to the infringing content from servers within its control"
No censorship, huh.

| >>574364 disappointed :(

| >>574367 Their FAQ is filled with things like that, showing that they control everything. Hardly decentralised.

"Please note: Hosting fees are currently disabled on the network as we're currently working on a better way to implement the fee structure."
Fees on a P2P platform? They could also say "you host our content and we'll make you pay for it" I guess

| They say you can create competing apps but there's also currency rewards that are only available in their app? This doesn't sound decentralized.

| So in the end it's just buzzword filled BS

| >>574411 >>574041

>there's also currency rewards that are only available in their app
>without the use of cryptocurrency

from what I read/see, it IS a cryptocurrency based on bitcoin/blockchain. it's just that each transaction comes with some digital content id (???) that are distributed in P2P like bittorent.

so technically it is *sorta kinda* decentralized but the current (and only) implementation is controlled by a company, which is centralized.

| hmm, actually, i have no idea if it really IS decentralized. it's more like it CAN BE, but technically, if this company controls the only copy of the blockchain, it's no better than a database. i dunno, they aren't very clear on the matter. and the fact that they say "First and foremost, LBRY is a new protocol..." while also calling their company LBRY inc. sounds really fishy to me.

>Because LBRY is decentralized, doesn't this mean the content can't be removed?
>...The LBRY protocol is fully decentralized and censorship-resistant... data transfers over a peer to peer...which consists of our own content severs and anyone running the LBRY protocol...
>...LBRY Inc., makes no guarantee your content will be hosted on the network. The peer-to-peer network relies on seeders to host content...

| oh look

https://lbry.com/faq/block-rewards

> Mining Reward Schedule
> ...The genesis block creates 400,000,000 credits to be administered by LBRY, Inc. 300,000,000 of these will be strategically allocated to partners, many of whom have a direct interest in the naming layer. It also includes 100,000,000 earmarked for charity.

"we let you mine, but also, you can beg us for money which we made up". very fair and decentralized indeed. i'm excited now.. for the day it collapses.
