And only the lock, the bike itself is still there Anyone here have an idea on whats the thiefs purpose was? The wheel on the back also had some chalk on it I'm so confused right now

One time my lock got sliced and my bike got stolen. This was in Salt Lake City, bring a fucking strong lock if you bring a bike there.
Anyways, maybe your thief marked the bike to take later, and you got it back just in time.
