They say that The desperation of Haruhi Susumiya (sorry if it's badly spelled) has no protagonist. Despite having a character's name on the title

A story with no main character is hard to find. 'Fragmented' main characters (i.e stories told from different point of views) is the closest I can think of.
Even if there is no 'in-world' main character, there must exist an analogue to them. Anything 'telling' the story is/can be a 'main character'; entity like the narrator counts as well, even if they are omniscient or has no personality to speak of.

>>535003 Haruhi definitely isn't the main character, but I remember everything was from the point of view of Kyon and he got most of the events in the story started.

Mindgame certainly has a main character, but the main character isn't really the main character. Does that count?

Fate/Zero is close from not having a protagonist. Sure, it gave too much screen time and dedicate 2 episodes for Kiritsugu's background. But a lot of people find it hard to root for him because of his ideals. Even worse for people that have watched Fate/Stay Night because everyone likes Saber and Kiritsugu treat her like shit the whole show.

>>535176 But that makes Kiritsugu the main character. Main characters don't have to be good, they just have to progress the narrative. Sure, you may not be able to sympathise with them, but that doesn't make them any less of a main character.
Hell, I even like it when main characters are pure shithead with no moral compass. It makes me want to see what karma has to offer for them.

A historical film that tells the overall development of event/place as opposed to focusing on a few people would count, no?
It would also extremely boring, so you can see why fictions don't do it

Pulp Fiction splits screentime pretty evenly for the whole film

Also Free Fire presents no character of importance in order and almost everyone died. Good little shoot out film
