What's something stupid you've been discouraged from doing?

Stupid as in their reasoning was stupid, not the action itself. My faggot dad apparently wants me to be coddled by whatever money can buy and not learn how to solder shit because I 'can't do it' because it's 'hard'.
That's the whole point of learning...

Maybe he thinks you're too young or irresponsible to handle a soldering iron. They can cause a lot of damage if you're not handling them right.

>>453446 Now that would be a fair reason and could open up discussion on why he thinks that and how to protect myself from messing up horribly, setting certain rules in place, etc. Nothing wrong with that.
But that reasoning of "too hard, you shouldn't try"? Absolutely retarded.
I'm absolutely going to try once I get all the proper know how, tools, space and safety procedures together.

>>453446>>453577 umm, it's a soldering iron... if you can handle a butter knife without mutilating yourself you'll be fine. Here is a pro-tip... since you have money, buy a good one with adjustable temp, $75-150 range. The results are much much better and much less frustrating. Watch youtubs on how to keep the tip clean and how to handle solder with it. Once you have the basics and a good iron, it is like magic. Maybe consider makers lab if one near you instead.

>>453910 a butter knife wont burn down the house if you mishandle it. A soldering iron might.

>>453989 right, but technically you could mutilate yourself with one, but you'd really have to try. Point is, it's a soldering iron, it's hot, yes, but if you use the base and turn it off... then you don't burn the house down. If it were a flamethrower I could see it being legitimate danger lol
