as someone who works in US healthcare, Insurance is a scam in this country. The amount of work and hours it takes to get an insurance company to pay for the things they say they will is insane, and they continue to make it harder every year.
In general, the quality of care (at least in my hospital) is very good, but you absolutely need to hire a patient advocate if you get seriously ill, injured or old.
