For example, LXQt and Moksha are the best DEs for system resources. That makes it attractive to us Linux users. But most of us don't come from x systems anymore.
Our reptilian brain is used to Windows, so we struggle. I'm not saying I want Windows 2.0 out of Linux, so please don't get that idea. I'm just questioning things.
Why bother making the DE Windowsian if it can't be used like Windows OOTB? Am I just uncultured? Educate me, if so. I'm curious.

Also, it's not that I have a fetish for low ram usage. It's cool but I know it means nothing for me. I have a super strong system.
Therefore, I use Plasma without any issues.
What I'm saying is that most of these DEs are used to restore old systems for people. Most people are used to Windows' DE, not *nix DEs like CDE and shit.
im on arch btw

In my opinion xfce is pretty much a Windows 2.0 in trerms of look and feel. Worked out of the box for me and is actually usable unlike GNOME 3. Mate and KDE also look a lot like windows, but they both felt so... chunky? Like they tried to remake Windows but only half hearted.

>>723804 desktop environment, the software that uses the basic interface functions (x window system usually) to handle how different windowed applications are interacted with. It controls things like what window/windows is visible and what the interface for controlling that is.

>>723837 Gnome gets more hate than it deserves. It's main flaws (anti-customisation, big bars, simplified layout) can be good for people who do not want customisation.
