I migrated most of my workflow away from their programs. Can't find an alternative to After Effects but some programs manage to fill some gaps. Ranting here cause elsewhere is filled with fanboys ready to die for them

Adobe deserves the sword for caving into pressure and killing flash

Adobe is cancer. The CS4 versions were the last stable releases, CS6 was okay-ish too. Everything after that? Oh boi. Blender can do some after effects stuff but certainly not everything and has a... very steep learning curve.

I think CS6 was pretty good. I wish I'd had bought it at the time. The subscription model is as awful as people predicted. It's SO SLOW. So many background app running, unnecessary data sending, straight up removing access to older versions that are more stable that the current version. Sometimes programs crash on startup and signs me out. I'm constantly getting signed out and since my sub is with a team I have to request log-in verification everytime.

Recently I started making comps in AE CS2 then loading the project in AE CC to set up the render. They should just make these programs free, strip out the drm and charge for new features

>>720405 What do you use after effects for, or what features of it you are missing in other programs?

>>721388 2D motion graphics for advertising and 2D animation. The precomp and tracking matting is something hard to find elsewhere. Blender can do a lot but the video editor is difficult to migrate workflows. Lately looking at what OBS can do.

>>721477 Well, beside Blender and AE there are many tools to do this kind of stuff. But none of them cover all functionalities that the mentioned suites do. They are more specialized for certain tasks but can catch up with (or even surpass) AE if you master them: Krita, Inkscape, Gimp, Darktables, Pencil2d, Synfig, Natron, ButtleOFX, OpenToonz, Tupi

I also strongly recommend a look on the GNU/Linux distributions "Ubuntu Studio" or "KXStudio", which offer a huge amount of multimedia creation and processing software in single packages and even bundle-wise.

I started using them when I worked in the advertisement branch. It's really awesome software. Unfortunately the dominance of proprietary software (mostly adobe) and their proprietary formats makes it hard to use them collaborative. In my case it made me quit the whole branch as a consequence. I don't regret it. Ads suck anyways.

That's really helpful! I'll check though out, thank you

Yeah, adobe sucks because of their inconsistent updates and subscription model. I'd honestly recommend cracking an older version or look for an open-source alternative.

I have an idea, let's charge 800$ for a stupid MSpaint upgrade, the price will be so high people will think it's really fancy and complicated to code. What do you mean nobody's buying it?? Ah whatever just charge them 120$ a year, they'll never notice the bill on their credit card between their frequent excusions to Starbucks. What do you mean they're using older versions of our proprietary software?!?? Wait, they're using OTHER SOFTWARE?!?! SUE THEM!!! DRAG THEM ALL TO COURT!!

Just FYI adobe has basically always made their money from the industry with expensive licensing, they didn't bother to patch a known crack for years since the more people who know how to use it the more likely it's going to stay industry standard
They basically expected everyone to pirate until they started the subscription model
