is Blueray viable

| noticed It's superchep
so was wondering
is it worth getting some?

| Do you have a bluray player? They're not bad for archival but slow as hell.

will probably get one
are they actually reliable tho?

While it's nice to know these exist and cartriges do seems easier to store
don't know how i fell about a non standard solution long term support wise
also i can't even find a general price for these no clue where to buy em

| nvm acording to a 2019 interview for a drive+cartrige thatd be ~1300 and if tht holds up to today think im gotta skip

| Did a bit of light research

One of the flaws with disc media is that the writeable version often used a dye, that would break down over time or under uv light

Bd-r lth has this issue but you can buy bd-r htl which uses an inorganic alloy instead and should mitigate that

Next problem is you need to find decent quality discs at lower than a bit more than 2 cents per gb since at that price you could buy spinning rust and save a bit of fiddling with a burner and the discs themselves

| If you're goal is archival though remember if it doesn't exist in three places it doesn't exist

sweet !
atm their 0.013 cents / GB,
ty vm

| nvm calc mistake 0.026c/gb

| >>706728
with that do you mean a diffrent location or diffrent type of storage?

| looking at it hdd prices seem ta have dropped lots so i guess a hdd+bd combo would be good

ever heard about the 3-2-1 rule? (copypaste) The “3-2-1 backup rule” means that you should: Always keep three files of your data, including the original copy in addition to a minimum of two backups (two locally, which will be stored on different devices; as well as one offsite)
