I wish we had more hardware periferals similar in design to the TrackWrite keyboard.

Thinkpads are great hardware and there's a solid reason why they're respected everywhere. It's the only brand allowed in space on the ISS for example.
But they're expensive but (I may be speculating here) most of us are poor and have to settle for cheaper megahurtz/per dollar. The only time I used a Thinkpad was when I was a student and got a laptop lended to me.

>>690505 Thinkpads have been the only ones used on ISS for many years, but right now different manufacturers are present as well.
Buying used ones is a good decision though, if you're limited with money.
Newer models can be bought in good condition for a fraction of original price. I bought an x220 recently for $140. Granted, it's an 8yo laptop, but it's in great condition and that's exactly what I wanted.

What do you consider as the last good thinkpad?

xx20 series, arguably xx30

Well, I'm pretty happy with my x220 here. I consider corebooting and emancipating it with linux powers. Not sure if I will be able to restore Windows later on if I need it.

I don't like Thinkpads as they became popular with zoomers and now they're overpriced af. Their build quakity ages horribly and the displays are crap. Dell Latitude is also crappy. I personally prefer Fujitsu Lifebooks these days. Good shit from Japan, I tell you.

>>690949 same but Dell was actually good. I personally love the D series laptops. E5400 and E6400 ain't so bad too. Dell started to get bad in 2010's.

>>690949 Fujitsu sucks balls. Had 3 business models so far in my workplace and all of those fucking things were chirping like birds whenever it had to do some minor computing. Like... opening folders and moving my mouse. Fuck those things!

>>690952 Arguably there's a common trend in saying that tech started getting bad in 2010s. This applies to pretty much everything.
/u/ was definitely better back then.

>>690956 Even if it is firmware beep, I believe it can be disabled. Not even worth mentioning if it was part of selected Windows theme.

>>690958 Err. It was the motherboard itself with some nasty coil whine. Somewhere in the power segment for the cpu. No disabling that except if pouring a nice glass of water onto the leyboard if the laptop.

>>690949 The build ages fine, the screens indeed don't. The ccfl screen on my x200 could be used as a torturing device. My x250 tho is perfectly okay in daily use. Lifebooks don't have a clit. Can't say anything on latitudes, haven't used them.

i have a modern ryzen thinkpad and i think it's good, definetely better than my old crappy acer. tge screen looks fine. some stuff is broken with linux. for instance, tlp usb autosuspend doesn't work and i have to keep usb on all the time. and suspend/hibernate doesn't work with *ubuntu, but it has been fixed in newer kernels (works in arch and manjaro). >>690956 >Fujitsu sucks balls idk but fujitsu made literally the goat cpu, the a64fx. they won't be going out of business soon.
