... becuse i think sudo shutdown now is too mainstream. is there any security risk? it surprised me that poweroff can run without privileges, but i think it doesn't shut down if the superuset i logged in.

Or do it Louis Rossmann style and just rip the power circuitry off the mainboard. That's a guaranteed way to shutdown your computer.
