Time for password managers?

| After leak of passwords on Quora i was kicked myself and finally started to use password manager.. newly i get know that was some leak on Wattpad too.. (probably passwords wasn't included, but who know).. but it's get me little thinking if isn't finally time to use password managers.. i'm thinking that is probably dead era when we was memorising passwords what was some word with special symbol(s) + some numbers.. Are you using password manager? or will use? what is your opinion?

| Try looking into KeePass. It's free and open source with offline database.
Since I don't really trust cloud database that works for me.

| Keepass is amazing.
If you haven't been using password manager for several years now, you're behind. Better get one asap.

| I got a question about password managers. Do you all use a password generated by the managers, or are you only using it for storing your passwords?

I'm very worried I'd lock myself out of my account when I want to log in using a different device and the device with my password manager is elsewhere.

| I just use text editor to store my password and encrypt the text file

| i use keepAss. i had a few passwords randomized and stored in it so when I need to do things I just need to type a master password which no company knows about. it's a genius concept really. for stuff that doesn't really matter (like facebook) i still use reused password though for convenience. I don't like using browser extension for stuff like this.

keepass has google drive plugin both on windows and android version. it's how I sync my password databases on every device i own

| My google account already saves logins and passwords all. Passwords are also autogenned that look like overdone captchas. Im new to this stuff, but is that already good enough or do I need something better?

| >>687054 I keep my database synced as well, and i also keep my main email password memorized and leave a copy of my database in there in case i lose access to all my devices. Everything else is randomized

Another option is to find a reputable zero knowledge cloud password manager, which is probably not less safe unless you're really serious about your own security. Though reputable ones probably cost money

| >>687113 That sounds like it'd make it hard to leave google if you ever want to, and definitely be vulnerable to government stuff if that's a concern for you, but if you use two factor authentication it's certainly an improvement over whatever passwords a person can memorize or store unsecured

| I found really nice Bitwarden.. but it's make me think what are you thinking about future.. do you think that in coming months or years will people need change form how are people logining? i have feeling that leaks of databases are more common than years ago, viz. leaks on Quora, PSN, Twitter, Collection No. 1 and so on.. after my personal experience and few small experiences as co-admin on some servers, and administrator of one old server i feel that are here too much attempts...

| Been using keepass for years, I always use random passwords because if I can remember it it's probably words which are easy to attack with a dictionary, I use a key file that's never been on any sync service along with a long password; that file is only on two devices and if I need to log in on my phone I just use scrcpy to paste from my computer

| I've had good results syncing my database directly between my phone and computer with syncthing, only issue I've found is that occasionally it takes several minutes for changes to go through. It's a little inconvenient to set up though, if anyone knows a secure syncing option that'd be easier to recommend to people I'd appreciate it

| >>687312 honestly it's always good to be a trade for difficulty for the user and security, you can use nextcloud which you have to run yourself but no one else can see your database or you can use mega/Google drive etc and trust the encryption on it to work

| Going to be a not good to be

| I use keepassxc, and then backup its password DB file on my phone, a backup disk and my laptop.
The latter can be easily done with syncthing, I just power them on and they all get the latest version in case I modified something

Also there is no point at all in using paid, closed source, password keepers which store stuff on the cloud when the above can be setup in 10 minutes
