Is SolusOS good?

| Getting a thinkpad for my mom. She's used Ubuntu before but she's used to Windows 10 because of work. Is Solus good for this case?

| Solus seems a bit immature at this point. I would keep her on Ubuntu or go with kde neon if you want something more windows like.

Once Solus gets more mature, keep it in mind, because it looks like it's gonna be a good distro.

| IMHO Solus IS mature enough right now. I'm using it as a main OS on my ThinkPad T430. Overall it's a great distro with excellent DE, doesn't require terminal for normal use and looks remarkably intuitive and responsive. So far the only issue I found was with Lenovo wireless mouse, but it's been wonky on Windows too. I encourage you to check it out.

| Solus was good when they had an actual engineer behind it (Ikey), who burned out and abandoned it causing a giant mess a year and something ago

Now it's, sadly, the dregs of a previously innovative distro wirh the rest of their core team behind it. All the innovations they had such as the driver manager or the linux steam integration are being slowly abandoned and its becoming more a generic rolling distro. They even rolled in a bugged, non-stable kernel which caused loss of data

| >>555689 And I say it as a previously passionate Solus user. You can feel free to try it but I wouldn't be surprised if one day someone else burns out and suddenly half the repo is an unmaintained mess.

If what you want is a rock solid stable distro similar in look and feel, I would consider opensuse leap, which is based on SLES (Like red hat and fedora without stupid decisions), or just use Linux Mint or kubuntu/KDE Neon for a similar UI to that of Windows 10

I just read about that today. Sounds like a shitshow. Similar thing happened where I worked.

| Xfce has always been a little more comfortable, stable and certainly lower in its resource usage footprint. give it a go if you don't mind configuring it a little bit after installing a distro that ships with it - Xubuntu should be fine.

| Manjaro any good for it?

| KDE Neon or Chakra is the answer.
