this is your only chance to prove that you're not a meme webdev or a windows fangirl. it's reaaally easy... just a simple question: how many bits is a byte?

>>555181 "Byte ate bits" makes a bit more sense, I think. Also, I can count in binary, although not very quickly, does that make me tech literate enough?

Four bits are a nibble. Four nibbles are a (On PowerPC and SPARC a "half-") word. Two (half-) words are a double- (in windows also long-) word (DWORD). In a x64 GNU/Linux environment a long word has four (half-) words. Such a long word has 8 bytes. Knowing this, it's obvious how many bits a byte has.

>>555231 then how about this? A Von Neumann architecture has data memory and code memory together as one while a Harvard architecture has them separate

>>555231 The question has already been answered in this thread, though. Well, kinda. Technically, you could see from 1 to 48 bits, I think. But most common up-to-date standard is 8.

>>555264 yep, i think that you passed the test. but are you talking about >>555198 answer? i didn't understand a single thing, i thought it was just a dumb g/u/rl talking about her nipples or something.
my answer would be that is the minimum adressable unit of memory by a processor. i posted this because i found the CHAR_BIT constant in c and thought it was cool.

>>555236 that's true, but i'm not an expert. is the program stored in a ROM memory or you can modify it by using special instructions?

>>555633 it's not exactly a meme so much as an amazing accomplishment, but its reputation and its creator both overshadowed it for the most part. HolyC really is something. so is the rest of the system, but it's just too archaic for today's standards unless you consider Shrine somewhat acceptabble. >>555658 /g/ kept it going as a "dude it's just fake lmao" thing for too long. shit was almost embarrassing.
